Transfer out of NYU to...

Hello fellow CC'ers. I am currently a student at NYU. I am currently a freshman in the Liberal Studies Program/College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in Neural Science (neuroscience) and I am Pre-Med. NYU is great, I like it a lot so far, however I feel like I would like a more "complete" college experience. If you guys could tell me what shot I have at these schools that would be awesome! If it makes any difference, I am asian. I attended a very competitive high school. I am considering applying as a transfer for the Fall '13 semester.

PS: if you feel as though any of these are out of my range I understand. Please suggest some other schools if you so wish to do so. I do not need a lecture, just some advice :)

Maybe UMich or Brandeis would be good options. Those schools are hard to get into; you would need a very high GPA and perhaps some undergrad research done. With that and good LORs, essays, etc you should be fine. Good luck!

Thanks, are there any other schools that you would recommend?

What places were on your list the first time around? Where else were you admitted?

Sometimes if you pick up the phone, you can “re-activate” an application, or even an offer of admission. If they really like you, you might be able to start in January.

Since you are in your first semester, one option to consider is simply taking a leave of absence for the second semester. This would give you a break from the academic fast-train that you have been on since whenever (preschool???), and you would have time to explore your options a bit more thoroughly.
