I am a freshman at UTK and I am looking to transfer for the Fall 2014 term. I had great high school grades and ACT scores but my parents wanted me to go to my state school to save money. Anyway, I really screwed up my first semester and I now have a 2.57 GPA.

High school:
3.65 GPA (6 APs, rest honors)
26 ACT
Plenty of extra curricular activities such as Student Body Vice-President, Spanish Club Vice-President, Beta Club, FCA, etc.
URM

College:
Chemistry D
Statistics C+
English A
First Year Studies A
Physical Education A
Spanish (W)

12 hours

I plan on taking 18 hours next semester to catch up for my withdraw.

Major: Undecided (Interested in pre-med or pre-pharm but I know they are not majors)

FIRST QUESTION: With some deadlines to transfer being June 1, after my spring semester is over, should I wait until I get my spring grades to apply in hope of improvement or go ahead and apply now? I am afraid the longer I wait to reply, there will be less spots open at schools I am interested in.

SECOND QUESTION: I was previously a Biology major in the Arts and Sciences at UTK but I am interested in Engineering. At UTK, it is not required to take a foreign language for engineering, so that is why I dropped the course. Will it look bad on my transcript that I dropped a class whenever I apply?

Also, I would appreciate it if anyone can recommend schools for me. I'm looking for a smaller school with around 15k AT MOST, preferably private, at the most and because of my poor fall semester lower standards for transfer admission. I fell in love with the SEC mindset of being Greek and football and neither of these things are going to get me into medical or pharmacy school. I'm not against either but I just feel like I got really distracted and I really screwed up. I really need to go somewhere new to get a fresh start. Thank you a lot for anyone that helps
