Ok, so I know it’s only my first semester, but I have this question forming in the back of my head…

I go to a certain school down Comm. Ave from BC… (I know, I know, insert rival joke here)
and well, BC was always my dream school… However! I got rejected. I did get into BU though.

So, I’m going along with BU for now. There are rumors of grade deflation going around here, making good grades harder to obtain. If I were to apply to BC again, would they take this into account? Or is a 3.5 here counted just as much as a 3.5 anywhere else?

I have yet to complete a semester, so this is all speculation of course. I was just taking a stroll through Chestnut Hill today and, re-realizing the beauty of the campus, thought about this for a good while.

I know this isn’t all of the info that they look at when applying to transfer, that’s not what I want to know. I’m solely concerned with the GPA aspect for this question.

If I recall, they did take a lot more transfers for this semester than in previous ones. In fact, my 8:00AM theology class is 1/2 transfer students, probably because it was the only theology class they could get into.

But, you are a freshman, no? You don’t have much of a record yet…

I dunno. It’s a great school here, but I am sure BU is a fine school too. I was accepted to both schools two years ago and almost went to BU. Wait until the end of the semester to see if you want to pay the transfer applications fees. Perhaps BU might grow on you.

I do like BU, don’t get me wrong! It’s hard to describe, I just have this weird home-y feeling whenever I make the trip up to Chestnut Hill, almost more so than here at BU. Also, even after trying to be engaging, I’ve met maaayyybee 4-5 people I talk to regularly? It’s weird. I thought at a school this large I’d relate to more of the people here.

I’m not even certain I want to transfer just yet, I agree with you there. I am just concerned that if I DO end up wanting to, I don’t let my GPA slip too low. I am freaked out about this whole grade deflation rumor…

Keep your grades up, that is all you can do now. What do you plan to study, by the way? I do know that the School of Management takes very few transfers.

Probably not Management. I’m undecided as of now. I’ll probably just go into CAS and decide from there. Maybe Economics? Maybe International Studies? Maybe Environmental Science? If I do decide to go for management later on, can I transfer from CAS to Management?

The short answer is, “No”, transfers colleges are really not going to give credit for a school known for grade deflation. Do the best that you can, and write a great ‘Why BC’ essay. Search for posts by scottj on tips for such an essay.

It would be difficult to transfer from xx college into A&S and then transfer into CSOM. If you are interested in in biz, take a look at CSOM’s typical frosh classes, and try to take something similar at BU.
