Transfer question...

Ahhh...W&M is such a good school. Now that I've committed to UVA I find myself wondering if I didn't make a mistake in not selecting W&M. There's certainly something to be said for its small size.

It is a great school. The only reason I am thinking about transferring is the quality of the business program at McIntire, which is one advantage it has over W&M. Although, certainly if you like small schools, this may very well be the place for you. How do you like UVA so far?

I had a 3.86 and an AA. I dropped out of school at 15 so I had no APs or IBs or any other sweet stats, but I took the SAT for UVA last fall and got 740V, 710W, and an awesomely impressive 520M.

I love my peers in my major, (I did summer session in June) I think the campus is great and the administration has been wonderful thus far. Plus...from what I hear, the sports are pretty good too. :)

Coming from W&M I'm sure the University would love to have you, I think your admission would be solely dependent on the acquisition of those prereqs.

I'm really thinking about applying to W&M, but I hear a lot of people go crazy b/c of its location and its intense focus on academics. I can get over the academics thing (I'd enjoy it), but is there nothing to do around there?

I think that is one of the false myths about W&M that somehow gets propogated. Anyone who is admitted should be able to handle the workload, or the adcom wouldn't have admitted them in the first place.

There is plenty to do around campus, although since its not a huge school we have to be a little more creative. There's CW (Colonial Williamsburg) literally right next to campus, which is a big hangout spot for students because of the shops/restaurants etc.. I'd say frat/sorority life is a major part of the social scene on weekends for the average student as well. A new movie theater was just built in New Town, which is about a 5 minute drive from campus. So all in all, it's just going to be as fun as you want to make it. I wouldn't make this a huge factor in deciding whether or not you'd like to attend W&M or let this keep you from coming.

Thanks Pizzelle, hope the adcom thinks like you;) I think I'll have a decent shot as long as I keep my GPA up this year. How is the housing there?

I'm living in a house off-campus, and the only people I've met so far have lived in apartments. I'm sure the dorms are the usual skeevy holes which serve as shoeboxes filled with undergrads.
