Im about to begin my sophomore year at a CCC in a few weeks. I plan on applying to UCI, UCLA, UCR, claremont mckenna, USC, UCSB, UCSD as a econ/bizecon major. I have already completed 1 quarter of calculus and need a second. My question is that if i do not take that second quarter of calculus this up coming fall quarter (the time of apps) will it reduce my chances? the reason is that the second quarter of calculus classes are full at my CC, and i would have to go to another CC to take it... i really dont want to. If it helps my GPA is around 3.8-3.9, and i have a few extracurriculars

thanks

From my understanding you need to complete your major's prep courses by the spring term before you transfer, so Spring '09 if you plan on sending in your transfer application this november. You don't need to have it done by this Fall when you apply but you need to show that you plan on taking it in the Spring.

thanks, but would it reduce my chances at any of those schools by not having the second quarter of calculus done which is a prereq, specifically uci or ucla since those apps are due end of november?
im not as worried about claremont or usc because those apps are due sometime in march

thanks

For UCLA is will. They are very picky on not having all your pre-reqs done.

And UCLA's bizecon is extremely competitive. You don't want to risk getting beat out by someone else who did take the class.

It will hurt your chances probably quite significantly.

alright thanks, so what i understand is that it will for UCLA, but what about UCI?

Not having completed a prerequisite for any UC will hurt your chances, however UCI is not as competitive so they are more lenient on who they will accept. I would say even with out that prerequisite you are pretty much in at UCI.

Captain: Are you planning on taking the second semester of Calc in the Winter or Spring quarter before you transfer?

well winter quarter

OK. I think some of the other posters were under the impression that you were not going to complete this prerequisite at all.

Completing Calc 1 in Winter should not have a negative effect on your transfer chances. Of course it is great if you complete as many of the pre-reqs before the Feb 15th deadline (the date when you submit your fall quarter grades), but the most important thing is that you complete them the spring quarter before you transfer.

You will be asked on your application what courses you plan to take during Winter and Spring quarter, so the UCs will see that you will still complete the course, but they won't see your grades.

If you have good grades in Calc 1 and will be able to show them good grades in a few other pre-reqs before that Feb 15th deadline, I think you are fine.

actually I have the same question, UCSD requires 3 Calculus courses, and I have none yet So I have to take one for fall 2008, winter and spring 2009. So by the Feb deadline i will only have fall 2008 grades, will that affect the admissions decision?
