Transfer Questions

I am currently a freshman majoring in Engineering at the University of Rochester. I am applying to transfer to the School of Engineering at Rice for Fall 2014. On the other side, I am also very interested in voice performance. However, I am not quite sure about I would want to do a double major or a minor in voice performance. Does the Shepherd School of Music offer minor degree for voice? Or does Rice university offer dual degree program for transfer students as well? My plan at this point is to get a minor degree. If I feel that the workload is manageable, will I be able to make voice as my second major without reapplying to the Shepherd School of Music (or else I would be 2 years off maybe even more)? If I got accepted to Engineering fortunately, will I have access to the courses that the Shepherd School offers, such as private lessons with voice faculties (I don't mind paying extra fees.)?

Most of your questions are best answered by checking out the Rice website. Let me see if I can quickly find you something useful. If you cannot find your answers there, it would be best to contact an advisor in the Shepherd School.

Do be aware that a minor is a not a “degree” program.

I do believe you have to apply to//be accepted by the Shepherd School and I am not sure if you can do that while a current student.

I do believe that anyone can double major (outside of the 2 extra admissions programs). So if you want to double in engineering and Spanish for example, then yes, you can.

OK, going to look…
