Transfer Questions

Does anyone know anything about UNC's transfer policy/admissions? I am an out of stater, and I heard that UNC treats in state and out of staters the same for transfer admissions. I find this hard to believe, is it true?
I am a freshman at a top 20 Liberal arts college with a 3.5, 2030 SATs, 3.6 in high school. Good EC's in high school/college. Chances?

Also, one of the main reasons I would leave would be because of the weather. My current college is in New England, and the winter is brutal. Whats UNC like in the winter? Thanks for all your help.

yes its true--residency does not affect transfer acceptances. residency only affects tuition (about 28k vs. 14k)

unc accepted about 40% of its transfer applicants last yr..not super high but hey a lot better than the 20% for OOS undergrads. i dont know very much about transfer chances, so hopefully someone else replies about your chances lol

about the weather--the carolinians i met on facebook so far have all told me that the weather is beautiful all year around. the worst it gets is like 30's or 40's, and they freakin cancel school if theres half an inch of snow! i feel ya about the weather thing..i live in minnesota..aka frozen tundra..cant wait to be at UNC next yr

Hey, I transferred from a "good" school in New England to UNC this year. I had a 3.4 and a 1370 on the old SAT with a 3.8 in high school and I am out of state.

I am from GA, so the Winter here is comparable to what I am used to, but so much better than it was in Massachusetts.

Its not true that they cancel classes, we've had enough snow to stick twice so far this year and we had classes. When we get it, Snow doesnt usually last more than one day. Good luck
email me at cwallace@unc.edu if you want to talk any more

lol really? well thats just what i heard from ppl who live in chapel hill..and im talking about school districts not classes

does anyone know anything about UNC's political science department? Is it highly regardered? Do many kids get into law school from UNC?

i was feelin charitable so i looked up the pre law advisors email for ya
jjbrowni@email.unc.edu.
she can answer your questions im sure

chris, in general, how has the transfer to UNC been? Worthwhile?

definitely, I like it here a lot. It has been challenging at times, but overall I'd say it was worth it. U can email me w/specific questions if you want. My email is above

Chris, did you apply to Chapel Hill right out of h.s.? Just curious what that experience was like compared to transferring later. Did you transfer in as a sophomore?

No, I didnt apply out of HS I transferred here as a junior

Chris, how was it coming in as a junior. Any difficulty finding your "group"? What did you do with housing?
