Transfer Questions

I just got my acceptance letter! I am transferring from Penn State as a Biology major. Now my only problem is that I also applied to Cornell and have to wait until mid December to hear back from them. UF also wants me to register for Transfer Preview Day on Dec 8 and there is no way that I can make that.

You applied to Cornell and UF? That's an interesting mix.

I wouldn't exactly call a 3.7 "poor" billsamson...I'm going to be getting into warrington with a 3.7 and 4.0 pre-professional...

shangs, what was your pre-professional GPA?

I am in the process of finishing the last pre-professional course, so maybe the GPA will be 3.8.
But still, your 4.0 GPA is way ahead of me.
You definitely will get in!

shangs...you applied to them without having all pre-professionals completed? perhaps that is why you were denied, or maybe you were just deferred. they WILL NOT give you any acceptance without all of the pre-profs finished. Besides, I don't think they are making any decisions for Fall 09 until June anyways, which is the deadline to app.

edit: apparently the accounting program did accept people for spring 09, so that wasn't the problem. I'm willing to bet it had something to do with your pre-profs. Hmm..now that I think of it, I'm not sure if you needed all finished in august of 08. Oh well. Who knows.

Do you think having an A.A. in pre-law from a Florida community college with a 3.9 GPA and 4.0 pre-professional (along with Phi Theta Kappa and a pile of dean's and president's lists) will be good enough to get into the political science program? What kind of chances do you think I have?

Only an idiot speaks in absolutes, so, I'd say you have a 95% shot AT9..

^ Thanks. I'm actually in high school, but I will have my A.A. in December with those stats. Because they consider transfer and freshman sections of my application separately, I wanted to see what kind of chance I might have based on my transfer section alone.

By the way... whenever I see you're name, I always read it as "jasonnipples." Sorry, I don't know why, I guess I have a little dyslexia lol.

haha...I know there is something else you have to do if you finish diploma and AA at same time..maybe SAT/ACT?

Yeah.... my high school transcript is alright, but probably not as good as my transfer one. I have tons of good EC's, a 4.4 GPA, and my SAT is.... well... 630R, 580M, 610W, and 11 Essay. So it's low for UF, but it's not a you-have-no-chance-why-did-you-even-apply-to-UF kind of low. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until Feb. 15, and I'll apply for housing in the meantime.

Yeah, I'm not sure how that works, but if you have the choice, definitely apply as a transfer..

I don't have a choice, really. I have to submit the freshman application, but they look at me both as a freshman and a transfer. So they will look at my freshman stats and if they reject me, I can still be accepted if they accpet me based on my transfer part of the application. So basically, I have two shots in one. I only have to get accepted by 1/2, and I'll get in. It's kind of complicated, and not many students have this situation, so I'm just trying to explore all possible scenarios.

Hmm...gotcha..Good luck either way..when are you trying to get in for?

I'm trying to get in for the fall semester... so that will make it even more difficult. Oh well, it's not the only option I have and I haven't looked at it as my dream school or anything. I mean, it's my top choice, but it won't kill me if I don't get in.

Right...still I'd think that the AA stats would make you have a much better chance than just the HS.

Man Im applying as a transfer from FSU w/ 3.73 gpa for Bio, I hope I get in as I am applying for summer A....got denied freshman year twice haha..
