Transfer Questions

Hello there, I just have a couple of questions about possibly transferring to the University of Florida.

I’ll give you some background first:

 1. I am a sophomore at the University of Central Florida, and my major is History.
 2. I have a 3.97 UCF GPA, which should be a 3.99 by the end of the term
 3. High school wasn’t as good- 3.3 GPA which should have been a 3.7 but my high school does not weight GPA, and I got a 30 on the ACT.
 4. I’ll have 65 credit hours at the end of the Spring term.

Questions:

 1. Do I have a good chance since I am doing very good in college, or will high school still screw me over even as a transfer?

Do I have to complete the B.A. foreign language proficiency before I transfer, or only satisfy the SUS foreign language admission requirement?

Can I apply this spring for fall admission, or do I actually have to fully complete 60 hours before applying, not just on track to complete 60?

Thank you for your time and answers.

Why don't you look on the UF website in the transfer section. I know that it is much better if you have your AA. If you have less than 60 credits they will look at your high school record while they won't with your AA. My son got in to UCF but chose to go to a CC instead to have an easier chance to transfer. He made an appt. with his prospective school at UF and this is what he was advised to do. He just met again and was told that this year they must cut transfers and FTIC equally but because of the articulation agreement they have they will be taking more transfers from CC's. I know that many students with AA's have already been accepted for spring. Check out the website and good luck.

if im not mistaken i think u have to have an AA to even be considered at UF

"Can I apply this spring for fall admission, or do I actually have to fully complete 60 hours before applying, not just on track to complete 60?"
-- Apply as soon as you can. I applied back in March. I'm finishing my AA this semester, and I've been admitted to UF for this Spring.

"Eligible transfer applicants must be in good academic standing at the institution(s) attended and must have completed 60 or more transferable semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, or an AA degree from an in-state public community college, or 60 transferable semester credits of course work listed in the Florida Statewide Course Numbering System from a Florida nonpublic postsecondary institution."

All right, thanks for the info. Talked to some other people and appartently you dont need just an A.A., you need an A.A from a community college. With the new restrictions univ. to univ. transfers are just not happening.

Whatever though, UCF's a good school and I'll be fine here. Wasn't really planning on transferring, just seeing if UF was a possibility. Since it's not, it's not. Still though, dorms built in 1938 are still in use at UF and I'm living in an apartment built in 2006...... definitely shows the difference betweeen the two: UF is old and prestigious, UCF is new and on the rise but still has a ways to go.

Thanks for your help by the way, I appreciate it. This will be my last post on UF forums as I will not be going to UF. Thanks again.

So you chose your school based on the age of your dorm?
Using that logic noone would go to Harvard since they have dorms there built in 1636?

I think UCF should build a waterpark, to go along with their new fancy dorms.

Seriously though alot of UF's dorms are listed under the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The history in these living quarters are amazing. Do you have any idea the kind of alumni who have called these places home? I guess Yale and Harvard have lousy historic dorms as well by this logic.

Check out UF's Campus Historic District:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Florida_Campus_Historic_District

I think he's just pointing out UF has more history than UCF.

Hence the "prestigious" part...

But as a UCF student, I'm not opposing the waterpark. We might as well give Disney a run for their money.

I seriously hope the "AA only" thing is BS. I've worked my ass of at a private college with a pretty good reputation. I'm a sophomore and I'll have around 90 credits when I do the transfer app (fall 09). I had all my AA requirements done by HS... I will be livid if I don't get in because of that... I'm so sick of being surrounded by filthy rich brats and I just wanna be with my HS friends at UF. We'll see how things turn out.

Also depends on your major...for business need to come from a community college 100%

University of Florida is not an entitlement.

would anyone know if my 60 credits all need to be transferable cause I feel like 2 of my classes at the school I'm at (phm2300 and amh2097) don't have direct counterparts at UF, but I will have around 60 credits by the end of this year. Will I need to apply fall and take summer classes to make up for them if I want to transfer? also, is this school to school transfer thing really not possible? I know someone who did it last year.

If I were you, I would call the admission's office and also speak to someone at your school of choice. Don't risk something so important as this!

This is what the UF/COB site says:

Prospective Students - School of Business - Warrington College of Business Administration

Transfer Students
The Warrington College of Business Administration admits transfer students who have completed their AA degree from a state of Florida community college. The college does not accept students from other universities or out-of-state schools. Transfer applicants will not be admitted in Spring 2009; however, beginning Summer 2009, transfer students will be admitted in the fall, spring, and Summer C terms. Transfer students who are admitted to UF as non-business majors cannot change their major to business.

Odd that this info is not found on the main admissions website rather buried within Warrington's

That's because the school of business has completely different entry requirements and situations then the rest of the school. Looking at the business school requirements is completely irevalent if you aren't going into their business school.

Sorry, know I said the other one was my last post but I just want to clear something up.

I in no way intended for my comment about the age of the dorms to be a criticism of UF, it was just pointing out the difference between the two. I fully admit that UF is a better school than UCF, in almost all aspects.

The dorms at UCF might be nice........but there are disadvantages...they are very impersonal and parking cost me $480 this year to park in the dorm garage. Plus a dorm is only as good as the people who occupy it, let me be the first to admit that I have had a less than a stellar experience regarding that; if they actually kept a statistic about largest GPA discrepancy between roomates, my room would have won it as I had a 4.0 and my roomate had a 0.2 GPA. You dont even want to know about the problems with some of the off campus stuff here at UCF...

Goodbye and good luck, Gators.

Good luck to you as well. I hope you consider UF for Graduate/Professional School

Hi guys!
I applied UF at august 2008 for 2009 Spring term to warrington Accounting programme. However, I didn't get approved!!

According to one of your early post
Quote "{{Transfer Students

The college does not accept students from other universities or out-of-state schools. Transfer applicants will not be admitted in Spring 2009;}}

Then why I was able to apply for Spring? Is it some kind of trick UF uses to collect application fee???
I am a sophomore in florida community college, and am going to get an AA in December.
I am thinking about apply again for 2009 Fall term, but since I got rejected this time, I don't really have much confidence now.

My GPA is 3.7 at community college, and the only shining stuff I have are Phi Theta Kappa and Dean's list.

SSobick says

"University of Florida is not an entitlement."

Agreed times a million!!!!!!!!!

shangs, your GPA is poor and PTK and Dean's list's are useless, if you don't graduate with a 4.0 GPA and four or five consecutive dean's list's then you are in the minority!
