I was wondering how bad it is to have your TA write you a rec? I will have one of my professors write me a rec but my other professors do not know me as well and I have established a good relationship with my TA and I feel that he would write a much better rec. Do you think this will be okay?

None of my professors know me well. May I have someone other than a professor write my College Instructor's Recommendation?
"While we prefer letters from a professor, we understand that there are some cases in which transfer applicants may not feel that any professor knows them well enough to write an accurate recommendation. In such a case, a teaching assistant or other instructor is acceptable. When making your selection, please keep in mind that we would like to hear from someone who is familiar with your work and can address your qualities as a student."

Teaching assistant, as in graduate student, is OK?

"If you have not had satisfactory contact with professors at your college or university, we recommend that you give one of the forms to a teaching assistant or lab instructor who may have had more experience working with you."

I think if they viewed TA recommendations negatively just because they are written by a TA, they would require that recommendations be written by professors exclusively. As it stands, they do not, and probably for good reason: I think TA recommendations can be much more informative when one has a poor relationship with the professor.

April 1st is the postmark deadline. While one should strive to meet this date, I highly doubt that one's application will be adversely affected because something is postmarked a couple of days after the deadline. In any case, though, it's best to be safe and meet the deadline.

do you guys know if they are more lenient with recs if u go to a large school? (i.e. they don't expect amazing rec letters and cut u some slack)

also -- are transfers ever waitlisted? if they are, do they request winter and spring quarter grades? i would suspect so b/c they would wait until mid-May or so for students who are on the semester system

I was waitlisted as a transfer applicant last year. They wanted to see my grades for the spring semester.

My GPA was 3.5 when I applied and I had 3.75 for the Spring semester, and was rejected. Last year the whole transfer admission process was horrible. They were extremely late and unorganized in notifying applicants (both ea and rd). Hopefully things have changed this year.

your college GPA: 3.42 after 3 semester
mine: 3.5 after only 1 semester

your college: Illinois Institute of Technology
mine: CUNY Baruch College

You ACT: 28 (converted to SAT is 1260)
my SAT: 1520 (converted to ACT is 34)

I don't think Chicago cares too much on standerdized tests, so a ha! I am worse! mwuahah

wait....

Just the fact that you got accepted and I didn't shows it. Oh well, gotta work on my game plan. But first sleep...something I haven't done in 40 hours.

Why do you think you were rejected jacknjill?

I'm confused...is that something I wrote? Not sleeping for 40 hours sounds like me, but I stopped mwuahahaing a while ago...

A year ago I felt like I had no other options and that I HAD to transfer (to Chicago). I applied to a number of places again, but I'm pretty happy here. I'm a part of a million clubs, I have a bunch of close friends, and although I'm at a non-target, I've met very important people in the field I want to get in and will be interning at a great bank this summer.

And I only pay 4K a year, whereas Chicago would cost me over $45 (no aid to intl transfers). But what can I say? I love Chicago and I need more from a college.
