I originally wasn't planning on transferring as a sophomore (i.e. submitting an application this Spring in the hopes of getting a spot for Fall 2012) but since my HS stats are pretty good and I got a 4.0 in my current university I'm seriously considering trying.

However:

I haven't asked for any rec. letters yet (since I wasn't originally considering transferring this early)--is it too late now? Applications are due in March-ish, but I guess if I still have time I could shoot some professors/TAs emails requesting the letters? Is it not too late to do this in time for the transfer app deadline?

I don’t think it’s too late. I am also planning on transferring but haven’t yet asked my professors for letters!

A couple of months is usually plenty of time.

the common app for transfer students has the print out of the recommendation form that need to be given to your professors/TA’s who are writing your rec., but it says that whoever is writing it must mail it directly to the school. so if a student is applying to multiple schools is that instructor expected to write, by hand, their recommendation multiple times.???

since the form has to be printed out to be mailed in, does the instructor have to write by hand one copy for each school they need to send it to? or can they somehow type their rec and then print it, sign it, and then send just a different copy to each school? or maybe write it out on one form and then take photocopies of that and send those out?

advice?

For mailing, either address and stamp the envelopes for your instructor, or have them return the sealed and signed envelopes containing the IE form to you, and you can then put them in a larger envelope and mail.
