Could previous Barnard transfers tell me their stats? Or those who applied as transfers tell me their stats? I’m going out of my mind waiting for this acceptance/rejection letter and at the moment I think I have a 50/50 chance; I just wish if I knew I had a 60/40 or 20/80 chance! Thanks a million.

My own stats aren't a fair representation, but here's the acceptance rate and average SAT data. GPAs are usually above 3.7, from what I hear.

Thank you so much! I got a 4.0 in my first semester at college and 1150 on the SAT's (very bad I know, math brought me waaay down). I've just been overwhelmed by the class of '09's stats! Why aren't yours a fair representation? Were you a transfer too? Thanks again.

That's a great sign. College GPA is much more important than SAT when you're a transfer. After that, probably your statement and why you want to transfer, and then letters, and then SAT.

Yeah, I was a transfer almost three years ago now, but I had a very consistent strong record. Most of the transfers I've met are those who did okay in high school and then proved themselves by doing great in college.

That makes me nervous I had a 3.5 this semester at Bryn Mawr and my midterm grades were good around a 3.7 average, and I had 1300 sats. But Bryn Mawr has no grade inflation and its a school comparable to barnard.

ln6104: Well I'm guessing your 3.5 at BM is exactly the same as my 4.0 at Lehigh! And ur SAT's are better, and I'm sure you got good teacher recs. How was your essay?

Primefactor: I don't think they ever asked on the app why I wanted to transfer!

My essay was in a sense a creative writing experience. I wrote about my russian class and like rediscovering my russian identity through this class cause i left russia in 1991 when i was four. However, I wrote the essay in present tense and went back and fourth experienceing the class fourteen years later and like fragmented memories of russia when I was four.

That sounds really interesting! At the very least, it'll make you stand out! I think all we can do is guess. I mean, if people with amazing stats get rejected and people with lesser ones get in, who knows, right? It depends if Barnard things we are a good match for them, and that's what keeps me up at night! I think I am, and I know a ton of alumna who have loved it, but still... And my bf applied to Columbia and is waiting to hear from them. I can definitely imagine him there but I'm still worried he won't get in, cos he didn't as a freshman. Anyone else going crazy before they even get to Barnard?! ;)

I am going crazy, I have an art history final tommorow, and I've been obsessed with the boards, checking them. I am really nervous cause I don't want to come back to bryn mawr next year. I go home tommorow after my exam, so hopefully they will not sent me a response at school. blueangel do you know a girl named shaundra at lehigh?

Why you want to transfer to Barnard, I mean. What's attracting you to Barnard, what does it offer that you're not getting.

ln6104: No, I don't know anyone by that name. Is she a freshman? If so, which dorm?

Primefactor: I'm not sure who your question was aimed at. Personally, I've always wanted to go to Barnard. I did the pre-college program (which actually scared me, I think I was too young) and I applied as a freshman but got waitlisted. I'm a city girl, so location is a big factor for me. Being in NYC is also convenient for travel, internships, diversity, more varied social life etc. etc. But as for Barnard? I really get the sense that B not only cares about the students, but also about its transfers, and that is important for me now I'm no longer a freshman. Even though my sister graduated a long time ago she is still friends will the girls she met at Barnard (they were all transfers- coincidence!). Barnard doesn't go on and on about how great and superior it is to be a woman but it DOES inspire confidence, and I would certainly love to experience that at a college. I know B is good for History too, my major. And of course, u practically get double-the-size for your money in terms of classes available! I'm sure students have gripes- who doesnt- but the more I look into it the more I'm loving it! Oh, and of course, if my bf ended up at Columbia that would just be an added bonus! ;)

Oy.

I just meant that essay. No question.

Oh woops, sorry. Nevermind then.

P.S. But those are the reasons I love Barnard! :)

Great reasons, shared by many. :)

Most of my friends are transfers, too. Not all, but a lot. We're cool people.

Haha, that's good to know, primefactor! I have no doubt. How mad do you think the Admissions Office would be if I called them everyday to ask if I'd been accepted! ;) (jk, I wouldn't do that to them, they're prob working so hard right now). I'm worried that every day that passes means less chance I've been accepted. Even my bf has stopped coming to the post office with me!

Has anyone heard yet (about transferring to barnard)? I wanna know when those letters start arriving...

As of today, their website says decisions are in the mail. Good luck!

Yes, they just told me too (I broke down and called them!). I honestly no longer think I'll get in, but I guess knowing is better than not-knowing.

i had a 1320 sat score
about 660's on sat II's

and a gpa of 3.75 (which was from a school that is not nearly as competitve as barnard, it's not as good of a gpa as it looks)

Good Luck!!!
I am very happy that i made the transfer :-)
