CSU’s do not consider your HS grades/GPA in their transfer admissions. Will you have completed 60 semester/90 quarter units by Spring 2023 prior to transfer. Have you tried to articulate the courses from UOP to the CSU’s on your list and will you meet the transfer course requirements?

You have a competitive GPA for SE and CS but all CSU’s give priority to local area CC transfers vs. 4 year university transfers.

SJSU is probably the most likely admission especially if you are applying for SE but CS is definitely possible if you meet the impaction threshold and increase your GPA.

SJSU CS Impaction:

Computer Science (BS)

  • Math 30 (Calculus I)
  • Math 31 (Calculus II)
  • Math 42 (Discrete Math)
  • Computer Science 46A (Introduction to Programming)
  • Computer Science 46B (Introduction to Data Structures)
    -or-
    AS-T in Computer Science

Computer Science

Applicants who completed five course requirements were admitted above a 3.90 GPA.

Applicants who completed four course requirements were admitted above a 4.10 GPA.**

Applicants who completed three course requirements were admitted above a 4.30 GPA.**

This major did not have the enrollment capacity to admit applicants with fewer than three course requirements completed.

**Applicants could achieve a GPA higher than 4.0 if they are a local applicant and/or they have earned an Associate Degree for Transfer in a similar degree program.

Impaction for SE:

Software Engineering (BS)

  • Math 30 (Calculus I)
  • Math 31 (Calculus II)
  • Physics 50 (General Physics/Mechanics)
  • Computer Science/Software Engineering 46A (Introduction to Programming)
  • Bio 10 (The Living World)**
  • Math 32 (Calculus III)**
  • Physics 51 (Gen. Physics/Electricity & Magnetism)**

Software Engineering

Applicants who completed seven course requirements were admitted above a 3.40 GPA.

Applicants who completed six course requirements were admitted above a 3.60 GPA.

Applicants who completed five course requirements were admitted above a 3.80 GPA.

Applicants who completed four course requirements were admitted above a 4.0 GPA.

Applicants who completed three course requirements were admitted above a 4.20 GPA.**

Best of luck.

Yes I’m applying for SE at SJSU and I will have 79 credits completed by Spring 2023. I talked to SJSU Admission and they said that my Golden Four Requirement is good to go but they still need to evaluate my other courses. Also, a quick question, if I meet the impaction GPA threshold, does it guarantee an admission or it just makes my application look more competitive?

The impaction thresholds can change based on each year’s transfer class academics so no guarantees but your GPA for SE is well above the lowest SE listed which is 3.4. If your current GPA remains at 3.8 or above and you have completed 5 of the 7 required courses for transfer, your chances are very good.
