Transfer Student getting a scholarship?

I'm finishing up at a Community College and looking to transfer to a four year school. I've got a 3.6GPA. One of the schools I'm looking at Winthrop said that with over a 3.5GPA I would get in-state tuition. Thats half the price of OOS Tuition. I'm coming from upstate New York, looking at schools in NC/SC and the south. I was wondering with a 3.6GPA, will a lot of schools have scholarships available? And if so for how much? High Point University one of the schools I was looking is $33,000, a scholarship would be nice. Can you bargain with schools?

Scholarship aid is few and far between for transfer students. They are usually given freshman year to woo student from other schools or as a mechanism for discounting the cost of attendance for students that they would like to attract.

No school wants to be “bargained” with and as a transfer students you will have very little leverage to do any “bargaining.”

where does it say that you’d get in-state tuition from Winthrop?

Full time OOS tuition is about $22,000 per year.
Full time In state is about $12,000.

The scholarship that you’d get is $5500.

Winthrop [Winthrop University: Financial Aid - Academic Scholarships](http://www.winthrop.edu/finaid/default.aspx?id=3482)

Out-of-State

University Scholarship $500 $5,000 30 3.5 – 3.69

Notes:

Out-of state scholarships include a grant to cover a portion of out-of-state fees.

All course work completed (excluding remedial or developmental courses) will be used to calculate the cumulative hours and GPR

Maybe I’m missing something…

I guess OP thinks if s/he could get a peabody scholarship for $10,000 as an OOS, it would be close to the equivalent of paying in-state tuition. However, Op would need a 3.7 gpa to qualify.

I guess I was reading it wrong. Maybe I could get a Peabody scholarship, it looks like I better hit the books and finish this semester strong and get my GPA up.
