Transfer Student: Management Minor?

I will be attending UCI this fall majoring in Biology and was thinking about getting a minor in management. But, I read on the Merage school website that I would have to apply, so I wanted to know how competitive it was to get into the management minor? Also, I am enrolled in Management 5, would this be a sufficient prereq since Management 1 is full?

I currently have a 3.7 Overall GPA, and I have taken Stats 7 and Econ 20A at my CC and received an A in both classes.

Lastly, are there any other minors you guys would suggest that would help a bio major for health professional schools?

Thanks for the help guys!

You don’t HAVE to apply. Just take courses during the year and after completing it you can add it on. Focus on getting into Mgmt 101, 102, 105, 107 and 109 as you need a few of those and they’re hardest to get into. After you have a couple of filler or lower div courses to take(1, 30a and a lot of free choice) which aren’t too bad.

No! You must do Mgmt 1. You can only do Mgmt 5 if you came in a couple years ago. As for applying, xelink is right you don’t have to apply - you can take the classes after enrollment restrictions drops (if there’s space) and during summer school (first come first serve). But it is easier to get into the classes with the minor / you have more peace of mind. It doesn’t hurt to apply unless writing a statement of purpose is that bad to you and you can always reapply. But they want to look at a UC GPA, not community college GPA. I think the Management Minor GPA average is around 3.6-3.7

For Bio, maybe you can pair it with a minor in public health? Not sure if that’s possible. Management Minor is applicable to lots though.

You can always just minor in something fun too :)

I took all the courses required for both the mgmt minor and the accounting minor(accounting courses were half during the summer though) and if I had more time I’d look into double majoring(I’m graduating next quarter and would be a bit short)

It’s very doable to get into the mgmt courses, though you might have to settle for inconvenient scheduling. Just take whatever you can and whenever it’s available. The minor is something like 8 courses. This means 1 or 2 courses per quarter on top of your usual load. It’s doable, they’re mostly easy classes.
