Hey I’m currently studying at NC state, I wanted to transfer junior year to Duke, Upenn, Princeton for their Biomedical/Bio Engineering programs. I wonder what are my chances as I know they only accept a very small number of junior transfers.
here are my stats:
Academic Program: major in Biomedical Engineering, Minor in Computer Science.
GPA: 4.0
SAT II (dunno if it matters): Math II 800 Physics 800 Chemistry 800
SAT I: 1520 (taken in freshman year in college)
Research: summer research in Chemistry at UNC, UMichigan Med School (paid research), and undergraduate research at NC state in BME field (two semesters).
Executive board for two clubs.
HS math team and science olympiad. (won awards)
Had serveral part-time jobs (5 or 6)
Volunteered at an afterschool for one year.
Volunteered at UNC math festival twice.
I feel like you have a really good chance.
Duke and Princeton rejected me when I apply there as a high school senior
They’re extremely difficult for anyone. What are your reasons for transferring?
I am wondering the exact same question that @PurpleTitan asked above. You are doing well at a good school, and should be in good shape for graduate school if that is the plan.
@PurpleTitan @DadTwoGirls
I am aiming for an undergraduate program at Duke 4+1 which you study for five years and get a bachelor and master’s degree at the same time, which should be the main reason for my transfer. I also feel I don’t fit well in the atmosphere at NC State, which is the other reason that I transfer.
I wouldn’t be frustrated if I get rejected as I know they rarely accept junior transfer, but I feel that I would be better off transferring to another school that has a stronger academic atmosphere.
That’s rarely a reason for schools to accept transfers.
What are your career goals?
Princeton doesn’t accept transfer students to my knowledge
@jais100 They are starting this year
@PurpleTitan I’m planning to go to grad scool and do research at univ.
Then there is little reason to transfer. You should be able to do all that at NCSU and I presume you are in some honors program there. The relationships you have and advising probably would help you more in grad school admissions.
If you want to, you could aim for privates that sound prestigious when you apply to PhD programs.
@PurpleTitan Thank you so much for the advice!
@BatmanRISENIMY Princeton will only be accepting a tiny number of transfers, it is beyond a crapshoot. The other two are very hard to transfer into as well but they are more reasonable. You have a chance at either.
