Transfer Student Unit Cap

I am hearing different things in regards to the unit cap at Berkeley. I am a transfer student coming in with 70 units of coursework. From what I have read from the L&S website, I can only take up to 120 units within a 4 semester time-frame. If I double major, I can take up to 136. I know I can apply for a semester extension, but I don’t want to do that because of financial constraints. I really wanted to double major, but with only 50 units available, that is impossible. My gf is a transfer student and she just told me that I can actually take as many units as I want within those 4 semesters. It didn’t make sense to me from what I read. Does anybody have some insight into this?

My understanding is the unit cap only kicks in after you have exceeded the maximum allowed semesters. So, as a transfer student you have 4 semesters (5 for multiple majors) to complete your degree before your registration is blocked due to exceeding unit caps. Only Spring/Fall semesters count, not summer.

@Yomama12 Awesome. I have been reading something else that was suggesting otherwise. Thanks!
