Transfer Student waiting to hear

Hey guys, I am an out of stater from Boston thats waiting to hear if I got accepted or not. I applied about a month ago and the admissions office when I visited made it clear I could hear within 3-5 weeks.

Still haven't got word, so I am curious if I might hear this coming week(the 15th) because thats when it seems like most decisions are coming? I am just dying to know, I visited the school last month and I absolutely loved it and its my number 1 choice.

The 15th is the notification date for freshman students. Transfer students are notified on a rolling basis. If it still hasn’t been 5 weeks yet, I would give them till then before contacting them about your application.

good news! I got accepted! Just got my letter yesterday. Pierre I just had a question for you… what seems to be the more popular housing assignments for transfer students specifically upper-classman? I am looking for apartment style as I am living on my own now although I don’t care if its 2 person or 4 person. How soon should I apply to get into whatever you suggest?

Also, does where you stay have any effect on the greek life? I was actually hoping to rush and maybe joining a frat but want to make sure I can if I stay at an apartment on campus.

Finally, if the more popular choice is off-campus, do you know what the best choice is and most affordable?

Thanks for any help Pierre!

ToBrien, congrats on your acceptance! looking forward to welcoming you to the Clemson family.

Housing on-campus appears to be somewhat of a mess this year. I got a email from housing that on-campus housing is still available but to be honest, I don’t think there’s enough room to place everyone that wants to be placed. Transfer students are not considered freshman so you aren’t guaranteed housing on campus. I don’t know what housing options are available for transfer students but for upperclassmen, the most popular apartments are the Lightsey Bridge apartments (Lightsey Bridge II is the best out of the 2). Lightsey Bridge II is a 4-person apartment where everyone get’s their own room. Lightsey Bridge I is either 2-person or 4-person with either a personal room or 2-people in a room (depending on 2 or 4 person).
Calhoun Courts is a great option too with either 2/4 person apartments (I’m living there this year) and Thornhill Village (where I’m going to be living next year) is the cheapest 2-person apartment available, though probably the farthest walk to classes from all the apartments. Again, I don’t know what’s available or not, chances are Lightsey will be pretty tough to get into.

Here are the descriptions of the apartments:

I don’t know how the application process works for transfer students, you should probably ask housing.
Where you stay does not have an impact on Greek Life. You can definitely stay in an apartment on-campus and be in a fraternity. (I know tons of people who are living wherever they want in fraternities).

I have a chart of all the off-campus options available. If you want, I can email that to you so you can compare the choices! The most popular options are probably Berkeley Place, Daniel Square, Highpointe, The Reserve, Tiger Town Village, University Ridge, University Village, Chimney Ridge, Hart’s Cove and Crawford Falls though there are many other choices.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Thank you so much for the input Pierre, greatly appreciated…

Sounds like if the housing is crazy this year then I am going to have to notify them as soon as possible of admission, would you agree with that? I truthfully would not mind staying in my own place off campus but I just want to be involved as much as possible in the campus and want to make sure thats possible by not actually staying there…

I can say that I am paying 850 for rent for a one bedroom apt in Mass, will I be able to find prices comparable to that off campus you think?

Also, as a Mass guy I am kind of intimidated coming from the north to the south although I have heard nothing but good things about clemson being so welcoming. As a boston guy yourself Pierre, I wanted to know what your opinion is like on the transition.

Thank you so much again for the help!

btw pierre, my e-mail is obie1124@gmail.com. If you want to e-mail that chart it would be a HUGGE help. Thanks again

I have no idea what housing is planning with doing with housing for transfer students so I would send housing a email to find out how priority will be determined and what housing will be available/when you can apply.

I sent you prices for the off-campus places with the chart and it seems that most places are around $400. The housing market here is a lot cheaper than up in Mass so you shouldn’t have to pay $850 for anything here.

Stuff here is different, people are a lot friendlier, people talk with weird accents, the weather is a lot nicer and people love fried food here haha. That being said, I thought the transition was pretty easy for me but that might be because I am very open to trying out new things and keep an open mind. Some people are just stuck on what they liked up north and don’t make that good of a transition. People here are amazing so I haven’t found anything to complain about moving to the south.
