<p>For Community College transfer students. If you have been denied admission to SDSU, you should do the followings:
1) Call SDSU prospective students center 619-594-6336 to find out why you were denied. Expect to get a runaround like I dont have access to your application, no appeal accepted
..stand your ground, demand to speak to a higher up.
2) Meet with your community college counselor to go over your course works to make sure you have complete all GEs (CSU/IGETC or SDSU GE plan), major preparation (or at least 2 major prep courses for in service area student aka students who completed majority of their transfer course works at colleges and university south of freeway 56) and at least 60 transferable units by the end of Spring 2009. Your counselor can help you figure out your transferable GPA to see if it meets SDSUs min GPA requirements for your major (Welcome</a> to the Office of Advising and Evaluations).
3) Have your counselor helped you with the appeal letter. SDSU said it does not accept appeal but you should file an appeal because it does not really sure what to do with students who met the transfer requirements but were denied. Send you appeal by certified mail and keep you receipts as proof of your appeal.
Its SDSUs fault for putting out a supplemental application that was so confusing to students. For fall 2008, their supplemental application gave student choices of CSU, IGETC or SDSUs native GE pattern. However, it only gave students the SDSU GE in the supplemental application for fall 2009. SDSU GEs and CSU/IGETC GEs do not align and most transfer students do not follow SDSUs GE pattern.
Heres the latest, SDSU sent out a letter to selected number of students on Saturday March 14:
Dear :
It has recently come to our attention that our supplemental application may not have provided you with the opportunity to indicate the full complement of courses you have completed or will complete by the end of the spring 2009 semester. If that turns out to be the case in your circumstance, you may be eligible for fall 2009 admission to San Diego State University. Therefore, if you would like us to re-evaluate your application for admission, please provide us with an official copy of all college transcripts.
Transcripts from the following institutions must be sent electronically: Cuyamaca College, Grossmont College, San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, San Diego Miramar College, and Southwestern Community College.
Please send all other college transcripts and any International Baccalaureate credit (if applicable) to the following address.
Office of Admissions
San Diego State University
5500 Campanile Drive
San Diego, CA 92182-7455
If you have Advanced Placement credit, please send those score reports electronically by contacting the College Board AP Services at (888) 308-0013.
All documentation requests must be received no later than Friday, April 3, 2009. You will be notified in writing of the admission decision.</p>
<p>I think the reason why they're reviewing your application is because there was a bug or something in the system. But I'm just going to cross my fingers they'll read the appeals as well.</p>
<p>My GPA by the end of Spring 2009 should be 3.0, my major requirement GPA says 2.60. Should I still file for an appeal? I had my counslor help me with submitting my supplemental application so I hope that was submitted perfectly. I called admissions a few days after I found out I was denied (early march) and spoke with an actual person there and he said they were accepting letter after May 1st. Should I send the letter by then or send it in as soon as possible? I will call the admissions building tomorrow and demand to know why I was denied my admission, seeing as if it could've been something wrong with my transcripts. But I just hope I can get this done by April 3, 2009.</p>

<p>Sorry for the late response, I was out of town for the past 2 weeks. GPA alone is not enough to determine if you were wrongly denied. Have your counselor verified that you have completed all GEs and at least 2 major prep courses and 2.60 GPA by the end of Fall 2008. Are you attending Comm College from the area (south of 56 freeway)? You should appeal ASAP. At this time, SDSU has told all students who appealed that they won’t be able to review their appeals until May or end of May…when they have additional space available; my understanding is they never had spaces available in May. It seems that they are using a delay tactic so they won’t have to admit students who were eligible for admission in the first place. You best bet right now is to appeal. Time will tell what’s going to happen? I have heard the word “class action” law suite came up for students who followed and completed SDSU’s TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) agreement. The last email I saw said SDSU is reviewing its admission guarantee policy, I feel that they have the right to modify it if they want to. However, for students who have kept their ends of the bargain (followed the old TAG), they have the rights the be upset. Guarantee means guarantee right?</p>
