Transfer Students Scholarships/Scholar Athlete

Hello all,

I have several questions and want to thank you in advance for your time.

Do colleges generally offer scholarships/merit aid to transfer students who excelled in high school and their previous college?

Is Spanish Honor Society worth mentioning?

Do awards from high school such as:
-Scholar Athlete Award winner (1 Winner in the School) Highest GPA 3 Sport Varsity Athlete
-Saber Award Winner * Highest Possible Award * (Student Athlete excelled both in the class room and on the field, displaying the utmost level of Leadership that was imperative to the success of the team)
-Coaches Award (Student Athlete demonstrated determination, commitment and leadership while selflessly putting the team before him/herself.)
-MVP Award
-School Sponsored Event 1st Place Winner (1250+ In the school)

Will they take into account work experience since graduating?
-Employed by a law firm doing real work (Creating writs of garnishments of wages/property ,starting complaints, affidavits, etc.)
-Started and managed small landscaping company
-Co-Founder of a Catering Company serving private schools lunches

Would they want my SAT and/or ACT Scores having completed a year of college?
SAT- 1170/1730 Disappointing
ACT- I never took this test. Would I be able to take this test over the summer or during the year and send it in with my transfer application? I'm quite sure the ACT is a better test for me.

I have glowing recommendations that I would be able to send in.

Assuming a 4.0 GPA is maintained the first year, and taking the previous into account, how much (if any) merit aid for a transfer student could be expected from a school such as Florida State, Maryland, and College of Charleston.

I know this is a loaded question, and I do apologize for that. Again thank you for your time and responses.

Sincerely,
Karma

In most cases transfer scholarships are much less generous than freshman scholarships. For instance the top transfer scholarship at my daughter’s college is $2500, much smaller than the top 3 freshman scholarships which are full tuition waivers plus varying cash amounts. Those that are available will generally be based on your college GPA. HS activities are unlikely to have any impact whatsoever. Same with SAT and ACT - once you have done some college, they are generally irrelevant.

here is a link to the FAQs for FSU transfer scholarships. Pretty limited by the look of it, at around $2000 spread over 4 semesters ($500 per semester).

Thank you so much swimcatsmom!

Not many scholarships for transfers and usually for relatively small amounts. Go to the Transfer Students forum, Resources sticky thread, there’s a link to a thread listing merit aid.
