Transfer to CSULB for second bachelor

First time posting a thread here...kind of excited!

Anyway ... Long story short, I graduated with a degree in Economics from UCSD in June 2013. Since then, I was stuck at the min wage job. This idea of going back to school for another degree pops up in my head.

I did some research and found that CSULB do accept students seeking second degree in engineering. I decided to go back to the CC I once attended - De Anza College, take Classes, and apply for the Spring semester. My ultimate goal is to get into the "Electronics Engineering Technology" program in CSULB.

But here comes the questions:

Will CSULB accept application for Spring 2015 transfer? Will there be a lot of CC students waiting to transfer in Spring semester?

What is the chance of getting in as a student seeking second degree? Are the engineering programs in CSULB very popular?

I am transferring from the bay area to Long beach area. Is it a significant disadvantage against me?

I can understand that Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Program will, of course, be very popular. But what about other engineering programs? I wish "Electronics Engineering Technology" program will be less impacted and less selective.

Any information will help! If you know a friend or whoever is seeking a second degree in CSULB, share what you know! Or if you know some information about Spring 2015 transfer. Share it too!

P.S.

a little summary about my academic status

-have a degree already, done more than 110 QUARTER units in CC (Sorry for the caps.)

-Then done another ~80 units in UCSD. I have a total of ~200 quarter units.

-transferring from De Anza College (CC in bay area) to CSULB

-80% done with CSUGE (Golden four done) , just need few more US hist/govt classes.

bump

Honestly the idea seems pointless. If you already have a bachelors degree why not pursue a MA or MS degree in Engineering? Sure you may be required to take a few core courses or prerequisites but I don’t see the point in pursuing another bachelors unless it’s done concurrently.

The thing is I do not have any recommendation letter / award that would allow me to pursuit a MA/MS in Engineering…

And I thought a student would need at least a bachelor degree in Science/Engineering before those program directors take a look at his/her resume .

Yes.Yes there are many prospective transfers. CSULB garners the most applications per application period out of any CSU and considering the quality of education and reputation coupled with a relatively cheap tuition means it will probably stay that way for some time.

What is your GPA? You should have all your golden four done before you apply. Even if your finishing a golden four course the fall before spring, I have a feeling that they will still give you the boot if you haven’t finished them all at the time of applying. This is kind of speculative but I have seen reports of transfers who are academic rock stars who got rejected. Some speculate its because their golden four along with all CSU lower division classes were not finished at the time of applying even though the students planned to finish them by fall before enrollment.

Well not really since your in state. Students coming out of “local” schools or CCs do get precedence and their requirements for admission are lower then students not “local” but still in state.

I think the advice you got meow is questionable. While economics does involve a lot of math, I do not think it even comes close to making up for the math, physics, circuit analysis, and programming you learn awhile pursuing a BS in electrical engineering. So MS in any engineering with your BS is a long shot but don’t rule it out.
I would say just for go bachelors in ME or EE. Even if you only get an BS you can still land a great paying job right out of school. If you got accepted to a engineering graduate probably it would probably be an up hill battle for you the entire time. What is your math and physics background?

Reply to Samthesham

Very sorry for the late reply… have been busy with other life issues=(

2.My GPA is 3.72 at CC. However, I am taking some other programming classes this quarter… and I suck at it… I guess I will just get a grade of C for both classes… that will lower my GPA probably to 3.2 or 3.3…

I have done a math minor in UCSD. Math is not my strength… but if I am willing to put some effort on it, I can still make it. However,I really need to take some physics classes…I have only completed High School Level Physics. College level physics, will, of course, be at different level. However, I am in the middle between “jobs for survival” or “loans for academic” this kind of thing. I still do not know what to decide yet…
