transfer to duke already got in but didn't go, yes i'm a dumb@#$

Hi,
I got into Duke Pratt for BME last year and for reasons unbeknownst to me I chose to go to Uchicago instead.I am doing well in pretty much the hardest courseload for a physics math and bio major but i am absolutely horrible and now really am convinced I would like to be doing BME instead. Does Duke hate people that didn't go there given the first chance? Or will transferring be not too much of a problem. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

thanks a lot

I don't know for sure, but I strongly doubt that duke "hates" people like you. That said, I wouldn't say transferring will be easy. Do you have a solid college GPA?
You sound like you have a demanding curriculum already, but remember that Duke BME won't be easy either.

Also, remember the things that made you choose UChicago in the first place. Duke is pretty different. Are you a freshman? Make sure you think this through.

Keep in mind that Duke accepts really few transfers. Also, this year Pratt has been overenrolled by atleast 50 kids, and they might not accept any transfers at all.

oh, i pretty much chose chicago because in senior year i had a sudden urge to do math and physics when my whole life had pretty much been in love with medicine and helping people and bio, i went to intel junior and senior year for biomedical engineering projects and after i came here i realized i don't want to end up doing physics and math and really truly truly want to do biomedical engineering which is really funny since i got into bme at duke. also, socially uchicago is not really fit for me. i fit in a lot more when i prospied at duke. my decision was pretty much based on physics and math.

yeah, well, I think the bottom line is don't expect an automatic admit because you got in once. As abduke said, Pratt already had a higher enrollment than they expected: they wanted 50 more students than normal and they got 90 more, so transferring will be really tough for pratt. I think they'll pretty much treat you like every other transfer, and it's not easy to transfer in here. Keep in mind that there are lots of well-qualified applicants that didn't already get a chance to come here, the admissions committee might look at them first, but I don't know.

Good luck.
