Transfer to Film

Can someone tell me how difficult it is exactly to transfer to Film? What are the requirements? Minimum GPA? I'll be grateful for any feedback

Well lets just say that 473 people applied to UCLA film last year and a microscopic 16 got in. that is right 16, thats is 3% admit rate. goodluck, i think they require a few essays.i think you need good connections to get into the school because i think the admissions offices doesnt handle the film applicants but actually the film faculty handles them.

wow that's unbelievable...so basically don't count on it

This what they require when you apply to UCLA film.

1) A departmental questionnaire
2) Unofficial college transcripts
3) Two letters of recommendation
4) A personal essay - a summary of the student's background, creative interests, academic and professional goals (2 pages)
5) A critical essay on a film or television program (3 pages)
6) A creative writing sample - a short story, play, script, poetry, or any combination (5 pages)
this is a link to the averages and admissions numbers. But iwouldn't look at the gpa averages to much, cause i dont think they mean anything. goodluck.

Its nearly impossible. I had a friend that picked UCLA over some other, probably more well known schools because he wanted to get into the film school so, so bad. He did awesome as an art major his first two years, got letters of rec. from two very important people, and he still didn't get in. He made it to the interview, which means he was one of the the top applicants, but he had a bad case of nerves and totally blew the interview.

Franchise1, don't let those posts discourage you. My friend just got a call for the interview - she's 1 of 30 who got it. You should seriously go for it. Good letters of recommendation and a genuine interest (that you can show in your writing and interview) will only be to your advantage.

My ex-girlfriend is currently attending USC film school. She got in as a psychology major and transferred in - no interview at all.

So, I say go for it!

I'm currently applying to the UCLA film school as a transfer student. I have yet to get a call for an interview. Though it seems like everyone who has been invited to interview has been called already. Oh well. It's my dream school, but I won't be totally discouraged if I don't get accepted. I'm just going to work that much harder to be successful. Remember, if film is your passion, you don't HAVE to go to film school to get to where you want to go. Film school is good at teaching you the technical aspects of film and helps with getting connections.

I wasn't discouraging him. he asked how difficult it was. Congratulations on your girlfriend and friend though, that is great to hear.

thanks for all the great feedback. I'm most definitely going to give it a shot
