Hi everyone, im kinda new here. I wanna ask what does it takes to transfer to HAAS other than major reqs and GE. I'm planning on applying next year. thanks ;)

itsyouitsme - it takes a high competitive GPA right near 3.9-4.0. Extracurriculars relating to your field of major (Business) and an incredible essay.

woow. do you know the transfer stats of HAAS? the acceptance rate? how many people they admit from cc transfer?

this site shows the stats for last years entering class…

[Transfer Statistics, Undergraduate Program - Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley](http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/statstransfer.html)

check it out.

I applied. I’m on the very low side of things

3.58, i think my essays were really good, however. The catch is you have to (absolutely with no exceptions) have all the prerequisites done. assist.org can help you with that. I’m not that hopeful about getting in - especially after coming on this site and seeing all the folks with very hi 3.8+ GPAs. Yet we will all see on April 30th. They prefer CCC students and experience counts for a lot too I’ve heard. My essays helped put my circumstances into perspective as I am a 25 year old, reentry student. A lot of EC’s and work.

Good luck to everyone who applied.

thanks sobizzle. very best of luck for you.

After coming to this site and seeing folks with very high gpa, I’m thinking about writing my personal statement now and doing a periodic evaluation session with instructor in writing session lol.

Another question: is non-business experience and extracuricular counts for transfer too? where did you applied too sobizzle?

I applied this year, with a 4.0 GPA but one of the pre-requisite not done (English) :(.
I would say if you just want to get in Berkeley, you could apply for their Econ major. (By the way Berkeley only allows you to apply for ONE major in the UC application. (i.e. no alternative major is allowed.)

@doonroy: are you taking that English class now or not taking at all? If not, why did you still apply to Haas?

From what I’ve heard, I only know two people who have successfully transferred to HAAS, they’re GPA’s were 3.92 and 4.0 but they’re EC’s were really good too. But not necessarily Business oriented EC’s. One person helped with a non-profit which tried to keep at-risk youths off the street and also did community service activity. The other person, with the 4.0 did a some study abroad work and also had deep roots within his church and also was an athlete, tennis and rugby- believe it or not - haha.

Anyway, the point is I hear they consider diverse candidates first and foremost, people that will be able to add to the program with different perspectives as opposed to the average 4.0 joe, which my counselor says “are a dime a dozen.”

Hope these things help - the more dynamic you are the better off you will be come decision time - I just wish I would have worked harder in my Math and English classes, those B’s are what brought me down - especially considering my math was 14 units of B’s and english is 6 units of B’s – if i can give any advice… do your homework in your calc classes and read the books in english, 95% on tests don’t get you A’s when your homework portion is 12% of the grade and B+/A- papers put you too close to the cusp come finals time.

To get rid of the English requirement, Berkeley requires me to take 3 English classes. This semester I’m enrolling in the 2nd English class.
I didn’t take the 3rd class for several reasons: First, my college (Cypress) did not offer the class (Intermediate College Writing) this semester. Second, I’m an immigrant and taking two English classes in a semester could kill me lol.

I still applied because:
Business Administration, as a major, is only offered in UCB and UCR right now, and UCs sometimes do accept applicants even though they didn’t finish all the prerequisites. The main reason is because I have a dream, and Obama said “yes we can!!”

Totally agree with you, sobizzle :).

@doonroy: for Haas, you need the total of 4 English classes, not 3. 3 English classes so satisfy the UCB R1A+R1B. And 1 other English/Literature class to satisfy the Literature/Writing Requirement. It seems to me that you’re missing 2 English classes. Yes, it’s true that some UCs make exceptions, but not Haas. They say it on their website (link on post #4 in this thread) If you do not show plan to complete all prereqs, you’re automatically disqualified. it sucks, i hate English classes too

To tatty:
Oh yeah hahaha you caught me. I really should have just applied for Econ. My friend (who goes to UCB) says that to me too. I was shocked last November when UCB only allowed me to apply for one major :(, and I guess I was too eager to choose Business Administration since UCB was the only campus offering it. (I didn’t apply UCR)
Haas’s requirement really is a lot! And for the next school year they are changing the requirements, which means more classes to take since the new requirements are more specific.
Right now I’ve already given up on Berkeley. (I still dream that they might send me a letter and say “you’re admitted to our Econ major” or the like. XD) How about your status?

i just reread my last post and noticed i used they’re instead of their, UCB would be ashamed, I know I am. Please forgive my show of ignorance, but most importantly, lets hope the admissions committee accepts all those that show such a unique and enthusiastic desire to attend these universities.

I am flabbergasted that this type of site even exists, goes to show you how impatient we are, which is weird since I am generally such a procrastinator.

Ya, I took a look at the new requirements and was very glad that I applied for Fall09, lolz… It’s clearly more specific, you’re right. Thus, more people will satisfy the prereqs, meaning the competition will get even more extreme (who knows, the 6% admission rate might become the “real” one ^__^).

My status? you meant completing prereqs for Haas? I’m taking the 4th English class right now and will be finishing all the prereqs plus 9 breadths by the end of this Spring. Although, to be honest, I still highly doubt my chance with Haas, haha

Tatty: whats your GPA and EC’s?

I’ve taken 5 English classes, Engl1A+1B enrolled in Engl 5 plus i took a Shakespeare class and European Literature class (A’s in all but 1A and 1B -Engl 5 should be an easy A) Spanish 3 with an A

I took math through Math 2A (multivariable calc and Stats B’s in all maths so far, but i’m looking at an A in my multivariable class)

Finished all 9 breadth with A’s and my econ 1a/1b and BAD 10with A’s, etc.

I’m just so worried they will auto disqualify for such a low GPA, but i feel like if they get to my essays and look at all my EC’s and work experience I’m a shoe in - if I had a 3.7+ I would have no doubts.

But right now I’m just hoping for the best and have already decided on Davis if not Berkeley - UCLA and UCSD are too far for me I got too much family in need of me, and I’m too old to just split out down the state for the next two years with my sister’s kids and my mom to worry about.

sobizzle, what are your EC’s?

Tatty, your post said Haas requires 4 English classes…this is true and false. The fact of the matter is some college english classes (1A+1B) are equal to the (1A+1B) taught at Berkeley - thus only 3 english classes need to be taken. At my college I did need to take 4 english classes but at another college near me I would have only had to take 3 english classes to satisfy the requirement.

Another confusing example of prereqs. Haas asks for is the foreign language requirement. My god - it says on their website something about the class being equiv. to the 2nd semester as taught at Berkeley. At my college assist.org said the 2nd semester at Berkeley was equiv. to a 3rd semester at my school - so I took the class at a neighboring college where the 2nd semester of foreign language was equiv. to the 2nd semester as taught at Berkeley.

I started my own tutoring program through an elementary school
I do tutoring on campus for Econ, Calc, Phys, Poli Sci, Span and Engl
I created a (floundering) Business Club - but they don’t need to know it’s currently in a recession
I work part time (25+ hours) outside of school doing flooring and remodels
I volunteer at churches, both my home church, my grandfather’s catholic church and my grilfriends church in sac - most of the help is for fundraising efforts overseas - plus i attend each on a semi-regular rotation
Just general volunteer work with local activities such as creek cleanup and rebuilding together

I have 3 years work experience in the mortgage field, and 3 years as a Customer service Manager at a startup out of Petaluma, Ca

My essays were personal experiences - 1 on my new found dedication to school (cheesy but uplifting - brought up work experience), another about my girlfriend and I, and another about my excursion in incarceration (that’s the one that I really liked, it was a bold decision to write about it - but i think i did it very well)
