Transfer to SJSU Question

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum but I have been browsing through it for some time now. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find an answer to a question, that I have been trying to figure out in regards to transferring to San Jose State. If you can point me in the right direction or help answer my question, I would greatly appreciate it!

My question is, would it be possible for me to apply and transfer to SJSU for Spring 2011 if I still have three of the "golden four" to complete? I am planning on taking Public Speaking this summer and English 1B/Statistics this Fall 2011 semester. I believe the transfer/registration date is sometime during August. I won't have the golden four completed by then, but I would have them "in progress". I have completed a great deal of my GE with the exception of those 3 courses.

If it helps, I am taking classes at a community college in the San Jose area and I am planning to major in Linguistics. When I started college, I did not take it serious and because of that my GPA sits somewhere around 2.6. I am at the point in my life where I have come to realize the importance of furthering my education and I have made many changes in my life to improve my chances to succeed. it is fueled by my motivation and love of learning, especially in languages and linguistics. Perhaps this is unnecessary background information, but I thought I would add a little bit of personality behind this post, so you may have a bit of an understanding of who I am. Thanks for your time and again, I would appreciate any help or information :)

I’d take all of your GE courses at the community college, and transfer to SJSU in the fall (I assume you meant 2012). I cannot find any way to justify paying exorbitant CSU fees for the same classes. Plus, your chances of admission will be a lot better.

The worst that happens is that you are out the $50 for the Spring admit cycle and can reapply for the following Fall. I believe if everything is “in progress” at time of application that it is fine. Do know that the CSUs tend to take very few transfer students in the Spring and a few times recently have had to cancel taking any Spring transfer at all! So, just know that trying for Spring can be a bit of a long shot verses waiting for a Fall 2012 transfer.

Also note that students with a 2.6 are on the threshhold for being denied transfer even to their local CSU, so getting your GPA up is important to keep your toe in the door. Linguistics cut-off for transfer last year was a 2.6 at SJSU: [SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1220.html)

Umm I’m assuming you mean Spring 2012…

It would be best to transfer in the Fall… CSUs don’t take as many transfers during the spring, if they even decide to!

Raise your GPA a bit more and your all good.

If you’re applying for Spring 2012 for SJSU, you HAVE to be finished with your admission requirement courses by Summer 2011. I just called SJSU yesterday and they told me that.
