Transfer to State University or University of Minnesota?

I'm having trouble deciding what college I should go to after I complete my transfer curriculum at a community college. My two options are either go to the State University (St. Cloud State University) that's 30 miles from my house and cheaper or the more prominent University of Minnesota-Twin Cities which is obviously more expensive, nationally renowned, and most likely (but not necessarily) a better education.

Here's some of the things running through my head about my dilemma:
My intended major as of right now is public relations (mass communications) or something close to it. At the U of MN the major would be called 'Strategic Communications' which is a mix of public relations and advertising. If I choose to go to the U of MN I would also have to take four semesters of a second language. The U of MN is definitely a better branded institution nationally.

What I really need is some guidance and advice from some people who may be seasoned on this type of predicament. I appreciate any information and advice you have, thank you.

If money is your biggest issue, then st.cloud would be your best bet. If you can afford the more prestigious school, it might not be a bad idea to go there. I would suggest visiting both schools and finding out which one you like more.

Thanks for your advice. Do you think I should base my decision on what campus I like better?

there are many factors you should use to decide. The most important factor is the education you will receive. If you feel like UMinn is that much better and will help your career, then go there.

There is no “right” answer. What school do you prefer?

I think I like the state universities campus better, but I think thats because I been there more often because its so close to where I live. I also was apart of an organization there. I’ve only been to the U of MN once as a prospective student and really didn’t stay long enough to get the feel of the place. It was nice and it was really big which I also like. I’m the type of person that doesn’t like a whole lot of change in this sense which is probably why I’m facing this dilemma. I know that it would be better for me as a person to step out of the box and get away from my safe bubble. I guess above all of that money is also what I should consider. its a little more than twice as much to go to the U of MN than State.

Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it and welcome more.

If you need more time to decide you could apply to both.
