I am currently enrolled in a smaller 4 year university in Michigan and would like to transfer to the University of Michigan. I did not do well in high school. I finished with a 2.9 GPA and a 24 ACT. I am in my first semester of college and am doing pretty well.

I was wondering what I should do to get into U of M. I am thinking of applying for Spring/Sumer 2011 or Winter 2012. I am taking college a lot more seriously and am on track to a 3.5 GPA this semester. I am taking 13 credits this semester and 13 next semester. I own my own business, work at a clothing store, and will be joining the Pre-med club next semester.

If I finish my first college semester strong, do I have a shot at LSA? If so, would it be a better move to apply for spring 2011 by February or apply for Winter 2012?

You should wait until you have at least a year’s worth of grades available for them to review before applying.

Your HS record is not competitive for admission and they would still consider that if you apply with only a semester’s worth of grades available.

I transferred with similar stats after two years of college with a 3.7, not sure how it would go after one year. Even after two years worth they still require high school transcripts but not much weight is put on them, after only one year there is more weight on high school, after only one semester I don’t think you stand a chance.

Yea. I agree. If I apply for Winter 2011, I will have 35 credits or so because I am taking summer classes. I think that would be an ideal time to try and apply.
