Transfer to UC options or not. Please help. 10 days left

Hi everyone, as the deadline of May 1st is around the corner and since I can not make a decision of which school to go to, I am considering any possible way to transfer into a great UC. Unless you guys are convince me otherwise.
I got accepted to UCR and CSUN, and University of Arizona. Also wait listed at CSULB. If it was up to me, I would choose the u of a in a heart beat but my parents have given me a cold no and that is there final answer :(
Anyways Sorry I'm going off topic.
Should I go to UCR and try to transfer to UCSD?
Should I go to CSUN and try to transfer to UCSD?
Or should I go to a community college and try to transfer to UCSD?
I would like to transfer as soon as possible. Maybe one year and go to a private school or the u of a.
I really need some help deciding my decision ASAP since I have only 8 days to commit.
Please ask all questions

Judging from your post I’m going to assume two things:

 1. You want to end up at UCSD
 2. You’re in high school.

Value-wise, community college would definitely be the best choice. Not only do you save tons of money (versus going to a 4-year which you won’t even have anything to show for after you transfer to UCSD), but you can even guarantee your admission to UCSD via the TAG agreement (judging that the TAG program will still be in existence in 2 years). Overall, community college would be the least expensive and also the best chance at transferring into UCSD (TAG program + priority for California community college students).

Now, onto the intangibles. There is a certain opportunity cost by deferring attendance to a full, 4-year university such as UCR or CSUN. Socialization is extremely prominent freshmen year of college, as most high school kids will be in the same boat and willing to make friends. I’m not going to beat around the bush, community college has a relatively insignificant social aspect. People usually have different priorities at community college, one of them being transferring, which is counter-intuitive to socializing in the first place.

Now, the 2 years you spend at a 4-year may become equally irrelevant (in terms of academia), but at least you will have the true “college experience” and have a blast doing so. Judging by your desire to attend U of Arizona, I would assume you are looking to have a good time, like many of us young students. Personally, I would’ve loved to attend a good UC straight outta high school, but I’m here now and I’m happy.

It all depends on your priorities and preferences.

The TAG program will no longer exist after the upcoming school year - meaning applicants applying this November will be the last ones to be able to TAG to UCSD. Heard this from my counselor.

@OP
Your best bet is to go to community college as UCorBust5 has said. Maintain over a 3.5 GPA at least, involve yourself in some extra currics and you should be alright.
This is if UCSD is your final goal school. UC-UC and CSU-UC is very selective and unless you are a top notch student with something on your app that really stands out, the window of opportunity is slim.

@siqness,

Thanks for clearing up the TAG info, I had a feeling it wasn’t going to be sustained for long. That’s a shame then for people looking to transfer next year… :(

@NaregT

As siqness has clarified, guaranteed admission may no longer exist but you still get the benefit of priority admission to UC schools. If you maintain a strong GPA and complete your major pre-requisites for transfer, then I have no doubt that you can get into UCSD without a problem. You just have to stay focused for 2 years.

Community College is going to be your best bet, but have a contingency plant in case you don’t get in. What’s your major? I think this is the most important factor that you should consider. If the major is impacted, it’s going to be difficult to get accepted, but if it’s not, then your chances will be higher.

Sorry just to clear up the UCSD TAG speak. The last time to apply for TAG will be the 2013 application season. So that means people that place their applications November 2013 for admission for the fall of 2014 will be the last time UCSD will be participating in the TAG program. I got this information directly from UCSD admissions office as well as their website.
