Transfer to UCLA: Most Important to the Least Important

I have been told by my clubcal advisor and a UCLA admissions rep not to stress about W’s at all. I have multiple W’s but I didnt even address them on my application.

^ Weird multiple reps told me more than three and they like you to explain why you had to withdraw from so many (family crisis, major illness ect).

I know they want to know, but it’s like when the employer asks the question in an interview “what is your biggest weakness?” Your not actually going to go into detail about how you dislike being around people, and that you think most people are incompetent are you? No. Your going to say something flowery and witty. Same thing for W’s. All I said was “transportation issues,” which could literally mean anything, but still explains the W’s. Whether this is true or not (it’s not at all) at least you gave them something without making yourself look bad. 90% of people lie on applications, resumes, letters, emails…it’s a tough world out there and you have to push your morals aside to get ahead. Depravity is not a sin if you use it to get ahead in life. You have to think like a lawyer. They don’t care about the truth or what is right or wrong, they care about how to form a successful argument to get what they want.

^You must be a confused man

@Rwasko- When you say you didn’t address them do you mean that you didn’t put them on your application or that you didn’t explain them in the additional comments box. I forgot to put a W on my application because it was from a ccc and I never actually got to attend the class because of a family emergency. It was the only class i took at that ccc so I forgot about it all together. What should I do? Will it jeopardize my admittance?

Vintij has given his opinion on academic integrity, and I will give mine. Yeah, some people lie on their application. It would be naive to believe otherwise. But I believe that the vast majority tell the truth, or close to it.

Also, not all ‘lying’ is the same with regards to the UC application. If you say something ambiguous about a component that does not really matter, like in Vintij’s case, I don’t see a problem in that. But if you make up a club and say you are the president or note that your best friend died which led you to receive bad grades, this would be clearly over the line.

I wouldn’t say 90% of applicants lie. However, I do believe that a good majority do bend the truth. It seems to be the norm nowadays.

No. You don’t “have to.” Only those who don’t work hard enough and as a result have nothing to show for themselves “have to.”

When you start stripping yourself of your morality just “to get ahead,” you become a slave to the money. And if you don’t stop, it’s bound to come crashing down on you like a house of cards.

vintij needs to take advice from conan (harvard grad):

[YouTube - Conan O’ Brien Tonight Show Farewell Speech](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6aLaPd7hvw)

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism – it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere.

Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen."

Lol! Oh gosh guys Vintij is either being sarcastic or is one of those guys that likes to say things he knows is gonna get under a bunch of people’s skin. There’s a slim chance he actually buys what was in his post but who cares? That type of attitude will catch up to those who practice it sooner or later.

As for me, I will stick by my morals. “Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.” -Sophocles. Man being an Ancient philosopher/writer would have been the life…

@laker

I was actually thinking of using the exact same quote. And in general,

Conan is awesome.

vintij is a ■■■■■

I didnt address any W’s at any level on my application. Like I was told to forget that I ever had to drop a class with a W. I mean I have done all the clubcal little conference calls and been to all the UCLA scholar program events…and W’s are not really a factor in the admissions process for the UC’s. That is the information that I recieved from multiple sources.

how do i apply for the TAP? is it like the TAG?

bump***********************

TAP is different for different schools. At my school it is six honors classes before you transfer. TAP usually involves taking honors classes. I would suggest talking an academic advisor at your school to get more information on your particular institution. Where do you go? Maybe someone who attends or has attended that school can give you some insight…
