well if dont know if you guys know this, but after you dont post for a while, collegeconfidential board puts this notice on every page you visit and it tells you to help people out on their questions.

being very lazy, i dont want to visit every thread so i posted this thread for upincoming uc transfer hopefuls to ask questions. feel free for any other post transfers to answer these questions seeing how im not going to be here all night.

tap student, they never say its "guarenteed" however, it basically is. There are minimum requirements for TAP such a a set GPA, so there will never be dramatic cases such as a 2.0 getting in on tap. if your CC doesnt not offer a TAP, tough luck. you can try another CC around your area. however, there are no TAP for berkeley. and the only TAPs i have heard of for UCLA are CC that are within close proximity of UCLA in general

I asked my counselor this same question... however it was "a student with a 3.8 GPA non TAP with same pre req's done as a student with a 3.4 with TAP". She immediatly without hesitation said the TAP student would get in first. Not saying the 3.8 wont get in... just the 3.4 TAP student has a much better shot.

dhl3, why are you caring so much about UCLA business econ? You don't even want to go there anyway, you already said that you would choose USC marshall over it anyday. With your stats you will get into marshall no problem (esp since you took 2 semesters of calc AND taking business calc). You took 2 calc classes that you did not need, so with those done and you're gpa you will get into marshall no problem. Why are you caring so much about a school that you have no interest in going to?

oh im sorry if i ever said that I'd choose marshall over UCLA anyday.

maybe I shouldn't make up my mind too quickly. When I said that (although I don't remember saying it, but i got bad memories), I probably was wayy into the business curriculum of the Marshall.

However, I did further research on UCLA to have a second look on it, and i actually found UCLA's undergraduate social science research and honors program really inspiring.

So now, it's back to 50-50 regarding my choice between UCLA and USC. :)

Well, and when I asked my counsellor about TAP, she said a 4.0 w/o TAP would look better than a 3.9 w/ TAP. But i think she has no idea how powerful TAP really is.

I posted this already but you might be able to help me out a little bit:

"I'm going to be a second year in college, and I went to Solano Community College for the fall and spring semesters. I wasn't serious first semester so i only came up with three units, but second semester i got back on top of things and took 16. So right now i only have 19 units. I transferred to Sacramento State and I am taking 16 units there this fall. I kind of wanted to stay in a community college for another year, but I lower division transferred to get out of my parents' house. Going to a four your college was the only way my parents would pay for me to live away from home. The thing is, I'd like to transfer again. My gpa for those 19 units is about a 3.48. I'd like to transfer maybe to a UC, but i was reading on UCLA's site that in order to upper division transfer, you must have 60 units at the end of the spring semester before you transfer. I don't know if it's like that for all other schools or not. But does that mean I can't transfer again? Because there is no way I will have 60 units by the end of the spring semester; I will only have about 50. Is it possible to transfer that next spring instead of fall? Thanks"

Vaca, in college, years don't really matter; it's all about how many units you have.

You can transfer anytime you want to a UC as long as you have 60 unit.
How many years you've spent in college don't matter. Even if it takes you 5 years to complete 60 units, you can still transfer to UC.

TAP is only for College of L&S. It wouldn't matter if you are applying for Engineering or Film or whatever. But wow, its surprising how a 3.4/TAP student has priority over a 3.9, or even a 4.0

Ok so you currently have 19 units (are they all transferable?) and you are attending a CCC this Fall?

You can get those 10 extra units by taking a couple of winter classes, and probablly an extra class during Spring/Fall.

Btw what major are you? If you are math/business/econ, most of the pre-reqs for these majors is around 5. If so, you can make up all those units easily...

you should have stuck at home and finished off your CC instead of going to a CSU. Priority of transfer to UC are reserved first and foremost for CC transfers. it sounds as if you havent actually taken any classes there however, seeing how you only have the 19units actual.

it is my serious suggestion that you find out if there is a way to resign from your CSU and and finish the rest of your 60units exclusively at a CC.

Also, you can easily make up your credits by taking and extra one or two courses during winter and summer time. dont look exclusively at spring and fall semesters.

Well thank you guys for the advice. I can see if I can squeeze in some more units in to get me 60 units faster. My major is business administration (finance). It's not really possible for me to back out of the CSU because living arrangements have already been made. Transferring isn't terribly important since I would like to go to law school after obtaining my bachelor's. I guess I would like to go to a better school in case the law school idea doesn't work out. I have read many times that it doesn't really matter what school you went to when you apply to law schools. So maybe I should just stay at Sac State and put in a tremendous amount of effort up until I graduate to make sure that I get into law school, and a good one too.

Basically the UCLA counselor (who actually had applications in front of her at the time) said they want the best students with tap or no tap. It is a numbers game at UCLA. Tap would help you if say you are exactly tied with someone else then maybe you would get the upper hand. Even a 3.8 w/o TAP would get in before a 3.6 w/ tap all other things being equal. She told me not to waste my time.
