Transfer to UCSB Computer Science

Hello, I’m currently a CC student and planning to transfer to UCSB with Computer Science major. However, my transfer adviser mentioned that the Engineering department at UCSB is very small and difficult. Which means that even extremely qualified students got rejected.
After the first year, my current GPA is 3.76, I can bring it up to 3.85 after next semester. I’m planning to get full straight A for the next two semester and start to get involved in EC and clubs. My major GPA is 3.7. Do you think I have any chance with UCSB for fall 2019?
I can already TAG UC Irvine this year, but the amount of CS courses not on an agreement with my CC campus is really confusing.

https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major says that for 2016 at UCSB, the 25th-75th percentile transfer admit GPA range for CS was 3.76-3.95, with an admission rate of 5% (42 admitted out of 907 applicants).

Yes, UCI CS seems to have a lot of unique courses that CCs do not cover, so you may have to spend a quarter or two “catching up” if you transfer there. You may want to look into other transfer targets like UCD, UCSC, etc…
