TRANSFER TO UCSB IN ONE YEAR..POSSIBLE??

Hello, I know there are many similar threads about this topic. I want to know exactly what I have to do in terms of workload to transfer from Los Angeles Pierce College to UCSB. I want to transfer in as a communications major.
I am currently a junior in high school and I will (hopefully) be receiving some AP credit as May is approaching.
AP English Language
AP Psychology
AP Environmental Science
If I do get a 3+ on all the exams, how many units will that cover?
SENIOR YEAR I plan to take:
AP Lit
AP Gov
AP Stats
AP Spanish

What classes would I need to complete before transferring?
Thank you so much. Your responses are truly appreciated!

Call Los Angeles Pierce College and ask to meet with a counselor to discuss your classes. They will help you with the AP courses and which will transfer and what other courses you will need.

In addition, the TAG website may also have provide answers.

Good luck!

Go to oneyeartransfer.com

Take in account that most grad schools don’t accept core classes as AP (especially med schools).

I go to Pierce College, and I know for a fact that you have to be a student at Pierce to get counseling. I would suggest contacting the High School Outreach program, perhaps they can help you.

thank you for all your responses

I am a one year transfer, and I applied as an Econ and Accounting major for UCSB and got admitted. Waiting on the other UC’s now. (Business major)
If you get a 4 or 5 in AP English Lang, it’s pointless to take AP English Lit since you need to take at least one English class at CC to be eligible for transfer. (To my knowledge)
I highly suggest taking AP Bio or AP Chem exam because if you get over a 3 on the exam, you would not have to take a lab science which is a real ■■■■■ (from what I hear).

I would also consider attending a nearby community college nearby and taking classes for your major (found on assist.org), You’ll be more competitive for admission the faster you take major classes.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I’m also a one year transfer, and I got into UCSB for Mathematical Sciences just recently. So based on my experience, it is definitely possible for you to transfer in one year! HOWEVER, it’s going to take a lot of effort! I only had 24 units from 4 AP’s (Chinese, Physics Mechanics, US History, Calc AB) and I’m working my butt off in freaking Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra… I didn’t even get IGETC done, so I feel extremely lucky to get accepted.

Anyway, to find out how many credits you’ll have, go here: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/ap-satisfy-admission-and-igetc-req.pdf

You need to figure out your major ASAP, and finish taking ALL of the course prereqs since the completion of prereqs is something that UCSB is super strict about. Also, do IGETC, which are general education classes, you can research more about it online, but remember major prereqs should be your priority, especially for a one-year transfer! Start out by taking English and Math because those are courses you need at minimum to even transfer. These are the minimum UC transfer requirements:

Two transferable college courses (3 semester or 4-5 quarter units each) in English composition
One transferable college course (3 semester or 4-5 quarter units) in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning;
Four transferable college courses (3 semester or 4-5 quarter units each) chosen from at least two of the following subject areas:
the arts and humanities
the social and behavioral sciences
the physical and biological sciences

You can also ask me if you have any questions! Good luck!

one way to get more of the UCSB experience is to attend SBCC instead of Pierce.
