Transfer to UF from another university?

Hello everyone,

I’ll be attending UNF this year. I’m planing to take all of GE courses and then transfer to UF to save up money (My house is 5 min from UNF).

Should I go to UNF or a community college. UNF will provide me higher education. Money is not an issue because my financial aid will cover it all up.

My major is Computer Science.

Thank you.

If money isn’t an issue (no loans, right?), then go to UNF and pass on FCCJ. It will give you the option of staying at UNF, incase you run into issues with transferring to UF. More options = Good Thing

Good Luck!

What did you mean by “go to UNF and pass on FCCJ”? I got into UNF and FSU. For some reasons, I want to stay in Jacksonville for first two years and then transfer to another school (UF or one in California). Can I do so? Is it guaranteed (for UF).

FCCJ is the CC in Jacksonville, so pass on the CC and go to UNF.

Transfering to UF is not guaranteed. In fact, it may be a “bit” easier transfering from a CC than another state university (while it may be a bit easier transfering from UNF To a college in California).

However, if you do well at UNF, you shouldn’t have any issues tranfering after your first two years. Keep your GPA high and make sure you take all of the core classes required by UF (which are likely the same core classes required at UNF).

Good Luck!

You’re right, there is no guarantee to transfer to UF. I want to go to UNF for 2 two years and transfer. It is a bit weird because people usually choose to go to CC and transfer, but I choose state university and transfer.

My core question is: will I also get A.A degree after two years at state university, like they do in CC, and I guess the answer is yes.

You’re not likely to get an AA degree at a state university (UNF does offer AA’s, but most students don’t get one). If you’re transferring from a state university, you do not need an AA degree.

Oh, I did not know that. Thank you.

So if after two years getting 36 credits on GE and 24 on major, with a high GPA, I’ll have a good chance at UF, right? I’m majoring in Computer Science.

Thank you.

Yes, an excellent chance. Especially if it’s CLAS computer science (vs. the college of engineering).

http://www.advising.ufl.edu/prospective/transfer.html#ComputerScience

You’ll need a minimum GPA of 2.5 (which is fairly low for a transfer student) to be competitive. If you keep your GPA over a 3.0, you shouldn’t have any issues.

Could you tell me the big difference between CS at CLAS and CS at Engineering?

I am sure I will have a close 4.0 GPA.

The thing is UNF offers AA degree. I don’t know if I should apply for it, or just take courses as a 4-year major. I don’t know if the courses I take for AA degree will be different from courses that 4-year track or not. I think they are the same since first two years is GE.

Thank you.

Check with UNF on the AA, but if your plan is to complete the 4 year degree, I wouldn’t go out of my way to earn the AA.

On CLAS vs. Engineering, you can review the course requirements at UF’s website. You would have to meet the CLAS degree requirements (which are slightly different from Engineering).

ENG CS:

Thank you for your respond.

My goal is transfer after two years at UNF. However, you said that I don’t need AA degree since I’m from a state uni. My question is should I apply for AA degree at UNF? Will it gain my chance on transferring to UF or other university in Cali?

Thank you.

It will not matter for UF. I don’t know about the university in Cali, but I would think it also doesn’t matter, since you’re transferring from an University (and not a local CC in Cali).

Thank you for your kindness and patience.

UF transfer is not guaranteed…get the best grades you can.
