I am currently a Freshman at the University of Miami and I was recently accepted by the University of Michigan LSA.

I am a Biology major but I'm thinking of switching to a neuroscience major. I decided to transfer because I do not feel that I am being as academically challenged as I'd like to be and I find the overall atmosphere at UMiami to be very distracting (the majority of students go out on tuesdays, thursday, and all weekend and cram the week before for tests. Yes not everyone is like this but I do feel that it is the majority of the people here, and while I've done my best to not let this affect my studies, I feel that I would be happier being surrounded by people that are more motivated and study for knowledge and not just to pass tests).

I really don't know much about the University of Michigan and wonder if it would be the right place for me or not. I also applied to Boston University but have not heard back yet. I love the idea of living in a big city with lots of opportunities like Boston and don't know if I would get the same vibe from Michigan. I also love that Boston is very science-based and has a lot of research and top professors in the sciences and wonder if Michigan has the same?

I hear that transfers have some difficulty fitting in at UMichigan and coming from a private school, I am worried that I will not receive as good academic advising/help/guidance as I do here.

Would anyone be able to address these issues, elaborate more on anything you know about UMichigan, and compare which school you'd rather go to (BU or UMICH)
