If a school admitted a person to their incoming freshman class, but he/she went somewhere else, and now wants to transfer to that school as a soph, how is he/she viewed by their admissions people? Assuming no problems in freshman record.

A) Glad you came to your senses, we'd love to have you, or
B) You had your chance, you'll probably just burn us again, or
C) Doesn't matter a bit. It's a clean slate.

IMO, C. I think it’s a whole new ballgame as there are additional factors in transfer admissions, including college record and reason for transfer. Also, it depends somewhat on the college, for instance, Stanford appears to give close to half of it’s transfer spots to non-traditional and CC students, while the other top schools don’t seem to follow this philosophy.

One thing about having being accepted as a fr, it does give you an indication that you’re a competitive candidate for the school. However, you also have to factor in the fact that acceptance rates for transfers are often lower than fr admissions.

Just a case study, but my D1 was accepted to a school and turned it down for another, then transferred to that school as a soph.
