So basically, I did bad in high school for multiple reasons and therefore did not apply to any schools. I am graduating this year and plan to attend a community college, hopefully Santa Barbara City College. I am really hoping to transfer to USC (University of Southern California) after a recent visit there. I am ready to work my butt off and want to know from anyone with experience tips or information. I read that I will need to complete 30 transfer credits and was wondering if that is possible to complete in one year, rather than in two. I was also wondering if when transferring, they look at extra curricular activities in your community college. I had done multiple sports in high school but wasn't planning on doing them in community college unless it is looked at by USC. I have read that they look a lot at essays/personal statements and wan to see around a 3.7 GPA. And for all those wondering, yes I do realize that it is an expensive school.

There is no minimum number of units required to transfer to USC, however if you have fewer than 30 transferable college units, the admission decision will be based primarily on your high school record. Note: AP credit will not be considered as part of the 30 college units as they were not taken in college.

Yes, it is possible to take 30 or more semester units in an academic year. Full-time college students typically take 15-18 units per semester (though, in general, 12 semester units qualify as “full-time” for enrollment and financial aid purposes. Taking only 12 units/semester would result in needing 5 or more years to complete your education).

Though many factors are considered in transfer admission, the main factor will be your GPA in rigorous courses.
