hey did anyone on here try to transfer to USD! if you did what are your stats and did you get admitted or not???

i got in. had a 3.87 gpa and majoring in psych. No ecs

when did you hear back? and what school did you transfer from? thanks

Hey I transferred! I had a 4.1 from HS, and a 3.5 from College. I heard back after about a month!

did anyone get in this year? im still waiting… and does it show on the website or email or just regular mail? someone please tell me.

Justneedtoknow, I suggest that you send in your admission deposit to Chapman. You’ll stop stressing out about this. You have to send it in by next week, right?

If you get your acceptance to USD, you can withdraw your acceptance to Chapman and forfeit your deposit. In the grand scheme of college costs, $200 is a **** in the dirt. (The $600 housing deposit is a little harder-hitting, though.) There’s a chance that you’ll decide to go to Chapman over USD anyway-- Chapman has much better FA than USD, doesn’t it?

Really, I can’t say the p-word? It’s an apparently vulgar word for urine, if anyone was wondering.

haha thats funny…
I just emailed chapman about extending my decision deadline… hopefully they are cool with it. if not you’re right… i guess ill have to… but jeez 800 down the drain is brutal. oh and what is FA? financail aid?

Yes, FA= financial aid. But I’m going by collegeboard’s reportings. USD reports meeting need by 80% whereas Chapman reports meeting 100% of need.

I’m sorry that it’s $800, I wasn’t sure if you were applying to housing. I sent in my fee to Seattle U already while waiting on USD, but I’m not applying for housing so it was only $200. I’m glad I did it. It was worth it to know that I wasn’t taking such a gamble.

Maybe Chapman will at least let you hold off on the housing deposit? Or is housing such a big issue to you? Could you afford a studio or a room if you apply for housing late and don’t get it?

oh i didnt know about the financial aid thing… it may even be worse now because theyre taking so much time… I asked the admissions counselor at USD if he could speed up my evaliuation and he said no because they have to see what the application pool looks like first to start making decisions which means that a majority of transfers havent been replied to…

Well, i live in san diego so theres no way i can commute and housings very necessary for me… i mean its the only way to make friends… atleast for the first year. ill call chapman tomorrow and see what they say about all this. what kind of stats did you apply with to USD?

I guarantee you that college housing is NOT the only way to make friends! It’s just the easiest way to meet people. Actually, when I was living in college housing, I hated everyone around me and didn’t start making good friends until I left. You could love it in housing, but don’t get sucked into the idea that it’s the only way to have a social life! It can also be much cheaper to live in your own apartment or share a place with other students-- college housing is expensive!

(I’ve been fighting housing tooth and nail since I started the app process. If a uni required housing for my grade without an age exception, I didn’t even apply.)

Thanks for the report about the phone call. I’m surprised that the majority of transfers still haven’t heard back. They’re taking their time. It’s comforting, at least, since that means that FA hasn’t been used up by the time they started to review my app (late review because of prof. evaluation). All my stats are in the stats profile page.

ya you’re right its not the only way… but i feel like its easiest. I called chapman and they said that their june 1st reply deadline is flexible so i can wait for USD. I really hope theres a bit of financial aid left for us i got $27,700 form chapman.

i know how you feel, i have a 4.0 in college and deans list and all sorts of other stuff and still havent heard back and its been like 2 - 3 months for me. I dont know why some people already know and some dont.

Ashe140, I just assumed it had something to do with their diversity push. The only diverse thing about me is that I’m from the East Coast and I’m poverty level. The financial aspect also might have something to do with the wait time in my case, but it wouldn’t make sense for you with a 99K EFC. I’m assuming neither of you are minorities?

im middle eastern. and im not sure of my EFC exactly but im assuming pretty low since i got 27k from chapman.

If you’re middle eastern and you talked about it in your application essay, there’s a good chance for scholarship money from USD. I think their biggest chunk of scholarship money goes to people with diverse backgrounds. Are you an international student or a US citizen?

Your SAR report should have told you what your EFC was when you filed the FAFSA. Unless you didn’t apply for the FAFSA and the 27K from Chapman is all merit-based?

and yes i am not not a minority. just plain vanilla here. with a extra helping of parents with maxed out EFC’s. Apparently i will hear like everyone else next week. Or thats what i have been told.

I’m a US citizen. I live in San Diego actually, i heard location helps also… The 27k was all fafsa.

@ash140 was it USD that told you everyone will be hearing next week?

Next week, ashe? All right, I can wait one more week.

I looked on USD’s website today and they changed the notification date for transfer students from the end of May to the end of JUNE…I hope you guys are right and we all hear back this week but I wouldnt be so sure.
