I am a current bio pre med major, I just finished in my first semester of college.i absolutely hate the current school I’m at. During my first semster a friend and fellow student unfortunately passed away. I can not stand to be at the campus anymore and my grades suffered. Most of the transfer deadlines for spring semesters have passes but one school near where I grew up is still taking applications I don’t want to stay there, they do not have a strong pre med program but neither does the school I’m currently at.i just feel like I can’t stay where I am. Would transfering twice look bad to a medical school admissions board and would these count as good reasons for transfering so much.
Generically, transferring twice would seem to raise a lot of questions to any highly competitive grad school program - med school or any other. Unless you have some really strong hook you might never have the chance to get an open minded hearing of your reasons for the two transfers.
Statistically speaking, multiple transfers are associated with a lower likelihood of gaining a med school admission. It’s also associated with a lower GPA/sGPA and a lower MCAT score.
Some med schools will require (or at least strongly recommend) that you get a LOR from each college you’ve attended–which mean preparing to apply to med school gets incrementally more difficult with each transfer.
Multiple transfers make it harder to form relationships with your professors to get LORs and to find research opportunities. Multiple transfers will cause issues with credits and graduation dates (not to mention your FA) since not all your credits will transfer seamlessly.
However, if you are so unhappy at your current campus that you cannot function, you should transfer. However, I’d recommend that you withdraw from your current school, take a time off and apply to your ultimate choice of college for spring or fall 2017 admission instead of trying to execute multiple transfers.
