Right now I am attending UCR. I am a second year in my first quarter. As of right now, my GPA is only 3.2 I didn’t try my best in my first year and as a result my GPA isn’t the greatest. I really want to transfer to a better UC. However, I have researched the transfer acceptance rate for UC’s to UC’s and only 6% of other UC applicants were admitted into UCLA’s Business Economics major. I am wondering if transferring to a community college right now will help me have a better chance.
In the end you are the one that needs to decide what path you want to try. However there are some discouraging statistics out there. According to https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14.htm the average GPA of an admit from a CCC or other UC was around 3.7, far above your 3.2 gpa. That’s just to get into UCLA at all.
If you look by major at https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm the admit average gpa for Bus Econ was 3.95!!
It is true that UCs are supposed to give preference to CCC transfers. However the number show that at UCLA the effect seems to be slight. If you aren’t happy at UCR then you may boost your chances to some other UC by going the CCC route. However UCLA for any major seems a longshot, and for Bus Econ seems virtually impossible (unless you are Miles Jack more athletic cousin or something).
