Transfer unit cap for CSU to CCC to UC?

Hey guys, I have a question I hope you can help me with. For Fall 2016, I attended a CSU and decided that I wanted to leave after that semester. Since then, I’ve been attending a CCC in hopes of transferring to a UC. During my one semester at the CSU, I took 15 units. If I’m not mistaken, each UC (or at least most maybe) has a unit cap for transfer students. For example, UCLA says that transfer students must be at junior level with at least 60 semester units and no more than 86 semester units. Meanwhile, some other campuses such as UCI have their cutoff point at 90 units max.

My question is: If I happen to end up applying for transfer to one of these UC’s after completing say 80 units at my CCC, would that mean my total of 95 units would prevent me from being able to transfer?

Also, if some of my units from the CSU aren’t transferable, would that make a difference or does the UC count all of them?

I appreciate your help, thank you.

As long as they are lower division (which I assume they must be if you only went one semester), you can take as many courses as you want at a CCC. The units simply cap at 70, and you get subject credit for the rest. So you will never pass 70 or less.

@Ohm888 Thank you.

You need 60 transferable units in order to transfer successfully, so if you had 10 that couldn’t transfer you’d have to ensure the other 60 did. Since it won’t hurt you, it’s good to have a little extra for situations like that.

Does this mean that I will always be considered a “junior transfer” ?

Yes. I think the UCs have a unit requirement you must complete in residence.
