I am a HS senior now and I will be enrolling to a college in Canada this fall. But I really want to apply to Cornell/ Yale/ UChicago next year.

Now, my parents won't allow me to take a gap year so i'll have to go to college. But i am thinking about applying either as a transfer or as an ED/EA student next year.

(Acceptance rates for ED/EA is way higher than for transfers, so that's something I am thinking about)

So should I apply as a transfer applicant or should I apply as a freshman ED/EA?

Opinions anyone?

If you took ANY college credits post HS, in United States the school would consider you as a transfer, you cannot be transfered into Freshman.

The definition of a transfer varies with the school. SOME consider you a transfer applicant if you have taken 1 post-HS college class (eg. GWU). SOME still consider you a fr applicant if you have had less than a full year (by their definition) of post-HS college coursework (eg. Yale). SOME schools have post-HS college credit limits.

OP, if you haven’t already, you need to check the college websites to see the policies of these schools.

Agree, you can jt apply as a freshmen if youre going to college. Discuss with your parents that financial aid is often not as good for transfers. If you need aid they schould reconsider the gap year. Then again, that’s as lo g as you’re top of class and have a 2250 plus to be a real candidate for these schools.
