Does anyone know when waitlisted students will hear from Smith?

I hate to say it but all signs point to nobody getting in off the wait list. Every indication is that the “yield” or acceptance rate is higher than normal this year. I am referring mainly to the first-years but I have also heard this is true among transfers.

Well, it’s not over until it’s over, as they say. Devotchka, to get the most up to date information, call or email the admissions office.

Just got a letter via snail mail today saying that the waitlist was closed because of max enrollment.

Hudablossom, was that just for first-years, as another thread mentioned, or for transfers?

SmithieandProud: I emailed them this afternoon. I’m crossing my fingers…

Would I be at a disadvantage if I apply again and let them know in the application that it’s my second time? Just in case they have in fact closed the waitlist… =

Bossf51, you’re right. i just got a letter that they’re not admitting anyone on the wait list. Just my luck!

I’m going to apply again for the Spring term, and if I get another “no” well then that’s it…
Does anyone know if high school transcripts are waived for Junior transfer applicants?

devotchka-- I saw in one of your past posts that you are a student at Simmons College… Why do you want to transfer out of there?

They’ll still need to see your high school transcript. It’s required for all transfer applicants.

You are, of course, able to apply again, but you may want to think about the fact that if you didn’t get in with your first application, and nothing really dramatic has changed by the time of your second, maybe it would be a good idea to consider putting your energies into making the best of where you are.

upstatemom: I want to transfer because I changed my major. Simmons is great for Nursing and Library Science, but it lacks resources for most of its other departments.

SmithieandProud: I understand where you’re coming from, but considering I was waitlisted, I believe that if I write a better essay and perhaps polish my r

Well, best of luck to you.

Good luck, Devotchka.

One thing: I’d contact Admissions and ask to speak to an Admissions officer. Not one of the students on the front line of the phones, but an actual Admissions officer. Make an appointment for a scheduled phone call if necessary.

Explain that you’re going to re-apply and why. Ask them to look at your file and ask what, considering you were waitlisted, could put you “over the top” on a new application.

Thank you, TheDad. That’s very helpful. :)

TheDad may not be excessively talented but he does have some small understanding of how to “work” bureaucracies. Oops…he’s now speaking of himself in the third-person, always a bad sign.

TheDad is TheMan! :D
