Now that decision day is over and they’ll be moving to the waitlist, I wanted to create a thread. Has anyone heard anything from admissions? My regional admissions counselor is out until Monday, so I did not get a response to my email. Smith hasn’t gotten in touch with me at all since sending me my waitlist letter (even after I sent them a letter of interest).
However, I saw on some other sites that they had taken some people off of the waitlist already, so they definitely have already moved to the waitlist - I’m guessing it’s going to be a pretty large year for acceptance from the waitlist, if they’ve already started (and because they probably accepted fewer because of their growing yield and application rates, to look more selective). Can anyone here post if they’ve heard anything or been accepted already?
My regional representative is out until Monday as well (we might have the same one if you live in FL or NY!) but I wrote her an email yesterday and I was surprised to see her reply. I had mentioned something about my additional materials and she replied to that.
I had sent her emails over the past few weeks and she hadn’t replied to them, but I know that even if they don’t reply, they very likely see them and keep them in mind when checking the waitlist comes around. I called her once but she was out in a meeting, and the woman on the phone told me that the materials definitely get added onto our files. I imagine they might even pull up some emails when reviewing applications to see a student’s demonstrated interest.
Ooh, what sites did you see that? It makes me excited…still hopeful. They’ll start looking at most of the waitlist in mid-May and I know most waitlistees in past years got their notification around the end of May. I wish you good luck!
I was just searching smith college on tumblr and twitter (I’ve been doing that a lot recently…) and saw a few people had been accepted. Not sure if they were all waitlist, but I know at least one was - she got accepted two days ago!, but it was not an official response yet, just her counselor replying to her. Thanks for the info! We do have the same counselor, I emailed her yesterday but it was later in the day, so I’m guessing I’ll be waiting until Monday if I do get a response. I’ve heard of other waitlisted people getting them as early as the coming week, so let’s hope! Good luck to you too!
Oh gosh, that’s so exciting. I’m nervous now! And yeah, I follow Smith on like every social networking site I have and I’m just silently yearning and waiting, haha. Hope any other waitlistees on this site post here too; we can all provide each other support. : )
sorry i haven’t responded, but i will if i hear anything! all i got so far was an email saying they had added an email i sent to the general admissions office to my file.
I just got off the waitlist! Has anyone else heard? It seemed so early; I really wasn’t expecting to hear yet, and none of my friends who were wait listed elsewhere have heard.
Not yet, but congrats!! I found a thread from last year where several people were off the wait list around today and the coming week though, and a friend of mine was just taken off the waitlist at NYU.
That’s such good news for your friend! And same here…keep checking my voicemail and email obsessively. Went to check right now, haha. I need a lot of aid so I’m really not expecting much, but I’m staying hopeful. Good luck to anyone with AP exams this week, btw!
Same to you (if you have them)! Just finished calc today. Same on the aid as well, I’m just hoping from a few success stories that my interest in attending and my recommendations will get me there! I’m trying to keep away from contacting admissions everyday, but it’s hard not to…
I do! Have my Lit exam tomorrow in the early morning. And gosh, I wish us luck! And I’ve contacted them once a week either through email/call/sending materials to not give off the wrong impression. I’m thinking of calling my regional rep tomorrow…prays
Thank you! I recieved a call as well as an email- it’s kind of nice because it’s very personal! I’m commited to Wellesley, though, so I’m not sure how I’ll decide. Good luck to all of you! My counselor said that they “have just begun to admit some students” so I think it’s early in the game, so there’s still a good chance for you guys to get off the wait list
P.S. Would it be weird to ask them why I got waitlisted? haha jk, but I am dying to know!
Also, I called my admissions rep once and spoke with her expressing my interest in the school and my other offers, and I sent an email in which I wrote an essay about “A Typical Day at Smith” where I basically used the story of me completing a day at Smith to show how it’s a good fit. Just in case you wanted to know what someone who got off the waitlist did.
Lol, I really wanted to ask why I was waitlisted (although I have a good idea of why) - I know admissions are never guaranteed, but I expected that even with my financial need I had good enough grades to be accepted despite it… You can never predict admissions, I guess! Thanks for the info! I sent a letter of interest citing a ton of reasons I wanted to attend and have emphasized that I will definitely attend if accepted, so I’m hoping that gets me there. Good luck with making a decision - no matter where you go, they’re both great schools! I’m regretting not looking into Wellesley more, honestly.
Congrats to everyone!!
I got accepted off the wait list as well; I sent a letter of continued interest and I also sent them a copy of my psychology extended essay that I wrote for IB! I just got my official letter of admission today. Has anyone received word of their financial aid status yet?
Anxiously waits for a call everyday, haha. I’m very likely near the bottom of the pool stats wise so if I get the blessing of being called, I’ll be one of the last. I do think i have shown a lot of interest though: i submitted a LOCI, as well as an additional recommendation letter from my AP Lit teacher. My counselor called and put in a word for me, too. I tried to reach my rep through the phone once but she was at an event; however I’ve sent some emails and gotten a few responses as well.
My financial aid need makes me very worried though; i need a lot and my gpa isn’t great enough to convince that i deserve it… I woke up and worked really hard until the middle-end of sophomore year. I have a few Cs, mainly from math classes, so i hope they can consider that. My expected EFC is only a little more than 1000 but I’m willing to pay 10k-14k more to go to Smith : ( that’s what the cost is at the uni i deposited even with a presidential scholarship, and i want to go to smith way more…
Whew, that turned into a rant. I tend to do that when I’m really anxious. So many high school regrets. Trying to still be hopeful!
It’s alright, I understand your anxiety, I’m there too! My EFC was less than 5000, so still not super appealing to the school, and gradewise I think had I applied ED i would have made it but I applied RD and our class salutatorian (and one of my good friends with similar but slightly better grades and extracurriculars) also applied RD and accepted their offer of admission which I think effected my chances of getting in. hang in there though! Even if we don’t get in, we can always apply as transfers. I also sent an extra letter of rec, ALSO from my Lit teacher!
Oh, awesome haha!! And aw, I don’t think that should affect your chances. At least, I really hope it doesn’t. And you’re definitely right. ;o; I’m applying as a transfer if I don’t get off the waitlist for sure. My counselor says that admission is very likely if we apply as transfers after having been on the waitlist.
I really regret not applying ED as well - hadn’t realized it was the school that I truly wanted. Almost all of my admissions results have been waitlists…Smith was the only waitlist I was actually super ecstatic about.
I guess we’ll have to wait until next week for any additional calls. Hope you and anyone else lurking has a good weekend~
Sorry for the double post - just wanted to know if anyone else was called! I haven’t been called and very likely won’t, but that’s okay as I plan to apply again as a transfer. Hoping another lucky person was called.
