Transfer with 3.4 from JHU to Barnard

Hello,
I am a freshman in colleges at the moment wanting to transfer to Barnard. I am currently at Johns Hopkins University and I anticipate a 3.4 maayybe 3.5 gpa by the end of my first semester. I am a physics majors taking physics requirements plus some MechE courses next spring… I was interested in Barnard’s 5-6 year physics/engineering program with Columbia…

My GPA is pretty rough for a school like Barnard, this I know, but part of my reason for applying is I have a health concern that, while not inhibiting, needs attention and it is easier for me to access healthcare in New York (my home city)…

These are some other stats of mine:

Hispanic female
HS GPA: 98 or 99 unweighted
SAT: 1510
Math section: 760
Reading/Writing: 750

HS senior year classes:
AP Calc BC (5)
AP Environmental Science (4)
AP Literature (3) [will not report]
AP Government (3) [will not report]

College GPA 3.4/3.5ish

Fall Semester Classes:
Classical Mechanics
Classical Mechanics Lab
Calc II
Intro to Fiction and Poetry
(12 credits)

Spring Semester Classes:
Electricity and Magnetism
Electricity and Magnetism lab
Intro to Mechanics II
MechE Freshman lab II
Matlab computing course
MechE undergraduate seminar
Calc III
(15.5 credits)

Extra curricular:
HS:
Started robotics program (raised $11,000 through grants)
Robotics- Mechanical Lead
National Honor Society
2X all county track and field

College: (I’m still exploring)
Society of women in physics - accepted Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) [not really a big deal but I did have to apply]
Society of physics students
Society of automatic engineers

I’m also interested in NYU Tandon for applied physics or MechE…
I think Tandon and Barnard are really my best options at this point even they are sort of drastically different. I also love the idea of women’s college for STEM field…

Thanks for reading this! I hope some of you may be able to offer your advice.

I successfully transferred to Barnard for Fall 2018. Your GPA is definitely on the lower side for Barnard, but I also think that JHU has a reputation as being a very rigorous college on par with Barnard/Columbia. My high school stats were awful, and Barnard still accepted me, so I believe their transfer admission process is very holistic. Make sure you write really good essays (that show what you are passionate about) and get good recommendation letters. Also keep in mind that you will have a lot of general education requirements to complete if you do decide to enroll at Barnard. It seems like you have mostly only taken classes that fulfill their science requirement and thinking quantitatively requirement. Let me know if you need help with the essays. I was also accepted into NYU for transfer admission, so I can also help with that application too, if you’d like. Good luck!

I read that you were accepted into both Barnard and NYU as a transfer. Would you mind giving some tips for the application process? Barnard and NYU are the two schools I’m applying to as a transfer for Fall 2019, but I am not sure how strong my application is. Thanks!
