Is it true that it is very easy once admitted to one school, you can transfer to any other school. If true, why would anyone apply to CAS, presumably the hardest to get into?

Well, transferring is very easy. However, it's not like you just "choose" once you get here. You may have to stay in your current school for a year.

Also, you apply based on your own interests. Your background and experience reflects those interests. If you try to apply as an entomology major when you want to be an engineer, the mismatch will be seen in the application.

Granted, a masterfully contrived application, coupled with good scores and essays, will get you into a school that doesn't match your actual interests. However, with such an application, you'd get into the major you want in the first place.

It just doesn't make sense in most cases to apply to a school other than the one you intend to graduate from, because it's just not worth the hastle.
