Will leaving a college early before a semester ends effect me getting into other schools? I have good high school grades and test scores but I’m a freshman in college and I’m going through a lot family wise and taking on school too has been a struggle. I barely even can sleep at night without thinking about it all. I want to take the rest of the year off and go to a HBCU next year but I don’t want me leaving school early and not having any finalized college grades fora transcript to be a problem and not get accepted. Am i in a bad position?
Go see your advisor first thing on Monday, and find out what your options are. Can you withdraw now and have no grades whatsoever generated? Can you withdraw now and have only Ws on your transcript? Can you get good mental health help now and finish the semester with good grades before withdrawing? Can you drop some of your classes so that you are able to finish the others well, but still have enough classes to not mess up your financial aid? Ask about the steps for a medical withdrawal.
If you are receiving financial aid, speak with that office and find out what happens with your student loans/Pell Grant/State Aid, etc. if you withdraw. Find out if there would be a difference if you get a medical withdrawal, or an academic one.
Provided you have only Ws on your transcript and can clearly explain what happened that led to your withdrawal, this first bad semester should not be a problem when you are ready to apply elsewhere. What could cause trouble would be if you ended up with a string of D and F grades.
