Hi, I kind of needed help here. I hope you will be able to help me here.
I’m a freshman at Florida Atlantic University. I’m international here. I have applied as a transfer student at Upenn for the Fall 2016. As of now my college GPA is 4 and I had all A’s in my mid term as well. I had recommendation from my professors here and also from international student office from the campus. I have been involved in couple of clubs that I mentioned in my application too. Also, I think my essays were pretty decent and I expressed all my intention and reasons for transfering clearly.
However, due to certain reason my ACT score is kind of bad. And by bad I mean around 20. But as I’m international here I have 7 in IELTS. So, while I’m waiting for the response from UPenn I was wondering what are my chances for being accepted there so that I can be ready for what I’m going to get in my plate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!
I’ll be honest with you, a 20 is fairly damning, especially as a sophomore transfer. I honestly wouldn’t say that it destroys your chance but I would temper your expectations (and anyone applying to Penn should). The problem you run into with people whose test scores are very low comparative to their GPA raise some concerns about grade inflation and the like. If I were you I would have taken a couple sentences to try to explain the disconnect.
Thanks for your honest opinion. Actually i did explain the reason for having such a low ACT in my application and also I talked to some professors at UPenn before applying. I’m aware of the fact that it’s not wise to make excuses, however I had some reasons for that. Nonetheless, should I lower my expectations to zero or are there any slight chances? Once again thank you so much.
