Transfering first year

hi i don't know if this is the right section, but anyway i am a senior in high school going to Baruch College in NY City so basically i already payed the deposit and signed up for classes, the reason because i chose baruch is because i didn't know what i wanted to major and i thought that business was the best choice, however in the last month i learned some programming and i just fell in love and i see my self doing something in this related field. Unfortunately i discovered that baruch does not offer a Computer Science degreee but only a CIS, computer information system, which i heard had very few programming courses and does not really prepare you. Therefore i immediately checked my alternatives and for my price range my best option would be to transfer to Stony Brook as soon as possible, since they have a great CS program. What do you guys thinks should do? like can i transfer in February and would i be granted any scholarships because the price is still high and also i saw that people majoring in cs at stony brook were already taking cs in their freshman year so will i be left behind

thnks

You need to find out how financial aid is determined at Stony Brook. Usually, the best merit-based aid is only for first semester freshmen. If you would qualify for really good merit-based aid there, it might be worth taking a gap year even if it means that you would lose that deposit at Baruch. Pick up the phone and call Stony Brook, and talk with the admissions office and the financial aid office.

Good luck!

Hey I’m going to Baruch as well, but planning to transfer to Binghamton after 1 year. Since you will transfer during the 1st year, they will look at your HS stats and SAT/ACT scores. If they are above Stony’s average, then you should qualify for aid. My friend had a 2100 SAT and 95 avg and got accepted into Stony honors. He did not get much aid…
