Transfering from community college early

Hello everyone!

I am currently a senior in highschool, planning on attending community college and later transferring to a CSU. The financial benefits that come with taking the community college route are very appealing to me, but I do not want to stay at a community college for 2 years. I want to experience the exciting university life as well as get my bachelors degree earlier, so I am trying to transfer as early as possible.

In order to do so, I am taking as much college courses as I can in order to satisfy general education requirements and major prerequisites. Through AP exams and concurrent enrollment classes, I have earned a total of 22 semester college credits. Adding the classes that I am taking right now as well as the ones that I plan to take in the winter, spring, and summer sessions, I will probably reach 54 credits by the time I enter community college.

Has anyone else transferred from a CC to a UC or CSU as an upper division transfer before 2 years? So, regardless of how long you have attended cc, as long as you have 60 credits and satisfy the other criteria, you can apply as an upper division transfer to the CSUs? Do you guys think that I am being realistic and smart about this, trying to transfer earlier, or am I just setting myself up for stress and failure?

Thanks!

As long as you have the minimum 60 semester/90 quarter units to transfer to a UC or CSU, it does not matter how long you spend at your CCC. Just make sure that your AP credits can be used for the required GE and major prep classes for transfer.

The only question I have is if you will have 54 credits by the time you would enter your CC, why not just go directly to your desired CSU? Provided that your AP and CC credits track well with your planned major you may be on a 2 to 2 1/2 yr plan already. May want to consider applying to a few CSU’s and make the decision in the Spring.

agree - why not go directly to a CSU?
