Transfering harder?

Just looking at some data from collegeboard.com about johns hopkins' transfer rate.

Transfer Students
* Total number of transfer students who applied: 658
* Total number of transfer students who were admitted: 99

roughly 15%

thats a lot lower than their first year acceptance rate. i thought it was generally easier to apply as a transfer student?

You can look through older posts on this forum regarding transfers to Hopkins. AdmissionsDaniel usually mentions that transferring into Hopkins is very difficult, in fact, I thought the most recent transfer admissions rate was lower than that. Maybe I am mistaken, but in any event, it is difficult to transfer here.

Not sure where you heard it was easier to apply to a highly selective college as a transfer student ... but it definitely is not. Transfer admission to Hopkins is much, much more selective and is based on space availability.

If you search old posts you will learn that last year's acceptance rate for transfer students was 8% (24% for freshmen applicants).
